I have only ever had a yeast infection once in my life. I had my mirena inserted in Jan this year and about 3 weeks later got my first yeast infection. After that I have battled every 2-3 weeks with active yeast infections. My OB said the same thing when I mentioned that the Mirena was thee only thing different and it had to be causing this. She said that was drastic and not liekly. It made me so mad. I know my body and I know this isnt normal. I scheduled my appointmnet to have the Mirena taken out today. I have had enough...8 months of yeast infections is way too long. Someone needs to have Mirena labeled for this reaction. Prayers no more infections once it is removed!!

I've had the same problem! I had the Mirena put in and it completely stopped my periods but after 6 months I noticed things start to get a little un-fresh. My doctor told me i had BV and that I needed to use antibiotics to relieve the symptoms. It worked for a little while but after a month I had it again. I found that using internal pessaries by a brand called Balance Activ helped immensely! It eased the unpleasant smell, eased discharge and also stopped the small amount of swelling i would get. These did a lot more for me than the antibiotics, But unfortunately this is not a permanent fix, also at £8 a box for 1 week's worth it does become pricey! I now have had the Mirena out and I feel so much more confident, Will be going onto the pill from here on out! So glad I found this post and I'm not alone.
Take care Ladies!

Honestly couldn't be any happier reading this. did you end up getting it removed? I'm constantly getting BV and yeast infections even when I hadn't had sex in like 6 months and I even get it when IUD was going to be so great like everyone has said it has been. I also felt like I was the only one having problems I am so tired of going into see my OBGYN doctor to ask for more medicine or another check up.

IF you did get it removed has everything died down? I was also constantly spotting for two years so I went on birth control.

I had my Mirena inserted in 2010 and experienced by first diagnosis of BV around 18 months later. Initially, Flagyl antibiotics cleared up the problem (at least as far as I was aware) however over time, it came back more and more frequently until the point where it was present (according to swabs) when I had just finished antibiotics and couldn't 'smell' any symptoms.
I tried EVERY remedy from antibiotics to probiotics to douching with hydrogen peroxide but nothing killed it permanently.
Doctors told me repeatedly that Mirena shouldn't cause it and online clinical trials indicated the same. I suspected maybe semen was affecting the PH but abstinence didn't help.
I finally had the Mirena removed (late!) in April 2016, almost 6 years after insertion. I had one bout of mild symptoms following and took a full course of antibiotics and alas, 5 months later I am clear! It's a miracle and it has confirmed for me that the Mirena was to blame.
Sadly, I'm back on the pill as I'm not willing to risk it using Mirena again (I also got my period every 21 days on Mirena which wasn't great) as life has been fantastic without having to worry about BV.

I have had my IUD for 5 years now and I can't count how many times I have been to the doctor or urgent care for BV and yeast infections. It is due to come out and I am really trying to think about my options for birth control. I am really glad that I came across this story because more often than not, a doctor says the infections are not from the IUD. My doctor has fortunately told me that in my case it is. I've never listened to her when she told me that I need to think about a different option.

Is it safe to put vitamin c tablet and apple cider vinegar with IUD ?

yes and the vitamin C takes the smell away ASAP. But probiotics were what I needed for permanent fix.

Ive had them recurrently for 7 years and onlyhad the Mirena for 9 months. Seems like it got exponentially worse since getting it. Dont know this was a suggestion anyway. Almost would have preffered getting tubes tied over this

Just like everyone else my doctor told me the BV wasn't from the IUD. I know better than that. I will be calling to make an appointment to get it removed tomorrow.
