glad to see I am not alone - I have had a lower jawbone issue for over 10 years now and it is destroying my life. I feel like I have been punched in the right side of my head and it goes down my whole right side. Been to so many doctors and dentist and most of them dont even listen. Nothing showed up in ct scans or xrays for years until recently. In last couple of years a large dark area shows up on right side of my head and also in a sialogram and I am told either "We dont know what it is and cant help you" or "its just a large fat deposit" or "its just scar tissue" The fact that I feel horribly sick all over doesnt seem to sink in to these doctors heads. I had pus coming out of the right parotid gland for years(staph infection) and still my WBC showed I had no infection and I never develop a fever. Several rounds of antibiotics have done nothing. Had a couople of dentist help me abit with surgery. The one dentist removed a huge section of dead bone from the mandible and said he had never seen anything so large, took 9 stitches in back wisdom tooth area to stitch it up, but still no better. I can feel this large area under the corner of the jaw and into my neck that burns an d is itchy and the pain goes into my neck and back and down my right arm, but cant seem to get any help and the strongest pain pills dont even touch this. Now just in the last 2 months it has started on the left side of my jaw also and is causing left arm alot of pain and numbness. This has been absolute hell. If anyone has had any success resolving their jaw issues please let me know.

The nurse who said that oral amoxacillin wouldn't work is wrong- see this study:

Amoxicillin works but the infection returns. I've had the same problem for almost a year now and currently am on Clindamycin after several bouts of Amoxicillin. Sure wish I could find someone who knows how to solve this and actually cares as I'm running out of money. I'm a senior and don't have dental insurance.

My doctors prescribed Augmentin (amoxycillin + clavulanate) for an entire year and have been on it for 6 or 7 weeks. The swelling did not go down, so I decided to try using an alternative therapy- DMSO and colloidal silver. I wash my face with a warm damp cloth and then wipe it with a cotton ball soaked in colloidal silver because the DMSO will push whatever is on the skin's surface into the skin, blood, muscle and perhaps even the bone. The idea is to haave the DMOS carry the colloidal silver into the bone. DMSO is known to reduce swelling. Then I apply DMSo + colloidal silver (1:1) on a cotton ball, wearing plastic gloves without powder. There is a tingling and itchy sensation from the DMSO for about 10 minutes.
Every time I do this at night, the swelling decreases, although I am not sure that the DMSO an colloidal silver are penetrating the bone & killing the germs. I can say that I have gotten a lot of relief from using the DMSO (note that my doctors advised against it).
If you don't have much money and no insurance, I recommend going to a teaching college and having the residents work on you (my doctor is a 6th year resident who holds a MD degree in addition to being an oral surgeon)- treatment is free or at a greatly reduced cost. Most dentists will never see osteomyelitis in their lives, but professors/doctors/oral surgeons at teaching colleges have experience with this problem.
If my infection does not resolve within 1 year with the Augmentin, the next step is to remove half the lower jaw bone and teeth of the infected area and replace it with titanium. Months later, a bone graft is taken from the hip in order to rebuild the jaw and replace the titanium. Needless to say, I am open to other alternatives and am considering Rife machine treatments because electricity will penetrate the bone. The problem with osteomyelitis is getting the antibiotics or other medicine inside the bone as it is very dense and difficult to penetrate.

My husband has had an infection in his lower jaw bone, right side, for over a year. I had him to many doctors, until I finally found the right one. The stories I am reading are all very similair. He just had his right lower jaw removed, a bone transplant from his lower leg, titanium plate and a skin graft on his upper thigh. The area that they replaced with new skin and tissue was shocking to see....he was devistated when he looked in the mirror for the first time. It has been 2 weeks since his surgery, and he is in pain from the surgery itself. He has also suffered some nerve damage. The doctors are saying it'll take 6 months for all of the swelling and graft to reshape to his face. However, during the surgery, which took 10 hours to do, they basically removed the gland, the lymph nodes and any tissue that was infected. He is on zosyn IV antibiotics 24/7. The doctors that helped us are located at University Hospital in Birmingham/Kirkland clinic. Dr's. Kirk Withrow and Dr. Eben Rosenthal were the doctors that performed his surgery. Goodluck to you all, hope there is a cure to your suffering as well.

Hi ..I just wrote your article on oral surgery and antibiotics.... I just had perodontal treatment with flapsurgery on 7 teeth, a few days ago...Several teeth had deep pockets with severe boneloss, and deep infection.. I have been given very strong antibiotics to take, 400mg flagyl, and feel very hesitant to take them for the same reason you describe..I have taken one a day instead of two... Yet I feel scared to discontinue in case it can stop the infection fron spreading... How are you going withn it now? thanks, Mayinda

I had 3 head MRI'S, X-rays, High resolution CAT Scan, panoramic , 3D micro magnification, . and regular CAT scan thermography. EAV ALL WERE USELESS
I was deathly ill I mean completely disabled.
I saw 40 MD they were useless. I finally went to an MD/ND /Chnese medicine doctor and we started down this path of dental cavitations we hired an dental cavitation expert and he opened up the sites and I had a big infections in my jaw missed by all the tests apparently like twenty years ago when I had wisdom teeth removed the doctor forgot a bunch of gauze in there and guess what well it was still in the site when the cavtitation doctor opened up the site along with
jaw infection that spread to the tooth next to it had surgery two or three times to clean it up and just open up all the sites and take a look around
I guess the test according to the radiologist is Bone Scan
if it is hidden deeper SPECT is the test I wonder if any of this would of helped me . But none of the ND, MD or dentist know this information oh maybe it was just the 50 MD that I saw!
Clindamycin long terms if the best for bone infections that is if you can tolerate it and if you be sure to take probiotics so you dont end up with serious digestive issue
The CAVITAT is supposed to be the very best test invented by a guy that had this jaw bone infection.
Tired of antibiotics I decided after much research go on MMS
I started with one drop and worked my way up it is something I read every single thing I could find then I did it for few weeks,
I used DMSO , MMS DILUTED WITH DISTILLED WATER TO SOAK in my mouth. I do oil pulling an oregano oil and sea salt soaks , LASER treatment and infrared lamp. I also diluted FOOD GRADE hydrogen peroxide and rub DMSO all over my gums and fill my mouth with FOOD GRADE hydrogen peroxide and hold
in my mouth for 20 minutes if I can then I spit it all out. Then my doctor sent me to naturopathic and I started hydrogen peroxide IV'S
I read somewhere that nothing can survive in twenty minutes of food grade hydrogen peroxide. I use a higher percentage and I did my research before I did any of this, because I super duper paranoid about safety and risks
I've done the ozone shots and I think that may be the way I got smaller doses because it makes your brain feel weird. Then I just stopped altogether. The hyperbaric chamber at the hospitals are there, but they have crazy making criteria, but if you have a pushy take no for answer MD will then you got something . Since this increases oxygen in the body by a tremendous amount and nothing can survive in these high levels ....
well it kills the infection . Some people just buy there own
small hyperbaric chamber in the city here you can go and rent it by the hour in some super health spa or healing centers.
This is battle but you an win stay dilgent about it
Get the right tests and think for yourself.
Wishing all a Good Health

For some odd reason this jaw infection osteomyelitis the whole thing seems to be so disjointed in the medical and dental field . It seems like you have to see a lot of doctors, ENT dentists oral surgeons
and try to piece this information together and if you did not receive that vital piece of info, well your not only out of luck but maybe out of time ! This was just my observation
. I was so blessed to be with someone that is a bookaholic and read the Root Canal Cover up and when I became deathly ill, and the test showed zero...nada...nil .ziltch...
.well my husband said it has to be dental! Which I could not fathom that dental issue could cause dizziness, stomach bloating and pressure, blurred vision heart palpitations. nausea weight loss brain fog fatigue rash light and sound sensitivity and teeth clenching...basically it was low level sepsis!!How can ER doctor not know about this there must be loads of people misdiagnosed that have this!
TOXICITY TEST is what everyone needs when you get sick for along time You need the bone scan test with tracer not an MRI
I had cone beam scan too and bunch and so many other scan they all missed all the infections. Before root canal extraction my dental cavitation dentist suggested long terms vitamin C IV or ozone IV . My MD told me this is to make sure that the infection does not settle elsewhere, in the body. Since dental infections can cause issues with the heart wise to be pre and post medicated!
I'm shocked doctors do not suggest this to the patients..
I read a case where the dentist did not scrape all the root canal sites but just closed up the sites and the infections were still inside, the person was deathly ill they went to NIHA and they gave this person ozone shots into the jaw bone and they were cured. I'm very open minded and like naturopathic medicine since I see that as the future but if your not well it might not be for everyone.
Also after root canal extraction a dental cavitation expert scrapes the bone to clean , sterilizes it with ozone and some other stuff,
then he takes the scraping and sends it to the lab to identify the strains found which may be floating around in your body . This information is given to your MD so he can treat you if can't then the rock stars of creating concoctions to kill parasites and the like ...the . Infectious Disease doctor they figure it out.
