Just wanted to post a quick reply to say that I'm very glad to come across this discussion. As someone who does have genital herpes, I can say that these bumps that I get from time to time on my labia minora are very different from the bumps or blisters that accompany an outbreak of the herpes virus.
I often wondered the bumps were related to the herpes, and if I was just ending up with seemingly never-ending outbreaks. But having read the other posts, I feel much more confident that I was correct in feeling that there was a difference.
Herpes blisters, in my experience at least, tend to either itch or sting a bit when they first come on the scene. These bumps we all seem to be referring to make me think more of a very clogged pore or follicle or a small cyst or deep pimple.
Thanks to everyone for the honest posts and the willingness to discuss this issue. We're all in it together! ;-)

I am 37 and just found a cyst on my labia. A few months ago my mom had warned me that she began getting them at about my age so I called her. She said her dermatologist (her GYN had no clue what to do) prescribed Clindamycin Phosphate which clears them up in about 5 days. It is 3:30 on Friday and of course all my doctors are closed for the weekend. So, I decided to google alternative remedies to help until Monday. Thank you for the Tea Tree Oil recommendation.

I am 66 and have the hard spot -lump? cyst? on the very edge of the left labia minor.
It easily irritates and becomes sore sometimes feeling like mild carpet burn. It hurts to use toilet paper. I fear jeans are a thing of the past as that hard thickness of seam at the crotch drives me crazy and irritates.I have taken to wearing no underwear and very loose sweatpants as often as possible. I am not overweight. Wiping is painful so I use a cotton cloths (cut up pieces of an old soft 100% COTTON T shirt) with warm water to basically 'blot' the area to keep clean. I'll try a Tea Tree dilution and see how that goes. An over the counter vaginal cream helps relieve but not rid me of the situation.
This began about 6 months ago so age is not a factor!....and it is reassuring to realize it is not an 'aging only' factor!

I get bumps (and currently have bumps) on my labia minora as well, but they don't swell and burst like you are describing. My bumps just stay the same size. They aren't painful or itchy. They go away after a few weeks.
I considered genital herpes, but I have had sex with only one man (my husband), and we have both been faithful, and he was a virgin when we married as well. My husband doesn't have any bumps either. And besides the fact that I have bumps, I have no other symptom of gential herpes.
I have also consider cysts, but again, the bumps is the only part of that issue that I have; there's no discomfort when I urinate or during intercourse.
I would go to a doctor about this, but I don't have a family doctor.
If anyone has any idea, please let me know. Thanks.

I have another one - this would be the 2nd one this year. I think I had 5 last year and 2 the year before which is about when it all started. Hot baths are essential, but hard to come by with a houseful of people. I have bacitracine (sp?) cream the doctor gave me for the first ones. Don't think it really works. I've tried popping these things with intermittent luck - they don't always pop. Messing with it just makes it hurt more. Sitting hurts too - I'm at a desk or in the car for a large part of the day. I wonder if this is the cause...??? I do need to cut down on my stress levels.
If all of us have had these things and at least twice as many haven't said anything about it - why haven't doctors figured it out yet??? We need more women doctors with bumps doing research. You can believe if it was a painful bump on a man's parts - there would be millions of dollars in funding to find the cure. Health to all.

I usually get these cysts once a year, in periods of stress. I'm 25, and got my first one when I was 20
The first time I got one, it got infected and I had to be admitted in the hospital where they cut the cyst open (without painkillers)...extremely painful. I ignored the little cyst, and I was really stressed then. not a good combination.
The time after that another gyno cut it open...again without painkillers.
Usually the doctors recommend a strong dose of antibiotics.
Some doctors have thought it is bartholin's gland...but it's not on the right spot. It's usually near or on the clitoris. Don't be afraid to tell your doctors what you think it is.
Basically my advice to anyone who discovers any anomaly on their labia is to go see a doctor immediately and get antibiotics for it. If you can treat it before it becomes too big, then it won't have to be cut into.
I discovered a new one 3 days ago, and started taking amoxicillin that I had leftover from another cyst. I knew I would get a new one, so I saved some.
Good luck to anyone. It can be really scary when you discover something like that. It's embarrassing and you can't tell anyone why you're sick or why you can't go out.
When I was in the hospital, one of the nurses "insinuated" that I was promiscuous and that's why I had an infection down there...in front of my family...
The ignorance about this is what bothers me the most.

I too found a bump on the outer part of my labia. I felt it Monday and it was bigger than a pea. It wasn't a blister as it was beneath the skin.
I freaked. I sterilized tiny scissors and cut it open. It bled a lot.
I put a lot of peroxide on it throughout the day...lots.
By Tuesday there was a scab on it and the bump had gone down a lot.
Today I went to the GYN and they said it was an irritated hair follicule.
He said it wasn't any type of STD...he said it was still draining and that it would for a couple days. So I'm continuing the peroxide to keep it clean and neosporn when I retire for the nite.
I was soooooo worried...

Okay so i agree that since there is so many of us and the cysts or whatever they are keep occuring in similar or EXACT spots then there should be a solution to this problem besides suggestions like "just let it go away on its' own". seriously? all of us and they can't come up with something?! anyway, i recently just went to my family physician [she has also been my school nurse for many many years] and while she was doing my paps i had her look at it [a few years ago i told her about it and she said that if it started to hurt to see her about it]. well, it wasn't inflamed but still there. she said don't touch it or pop it [b/c i try to] but if i don't want to deal with the pain to get it surgically removed. well, i'm confused :? what am i to do? i've had it for a few years now and i usually get it before my period, which would be this week. the bump is located on my left labia minora[L] up near the clitoris like the majority of you ladies and it is yes, filled with pus-like fluid. i'm horrible b/c i will poke at it; trying to pop it and it just makes it worse so i'm going to start taking baths with a little tea tree oil and/or epsom salt from now on. however, i'm debating on whether to see a surgeon. any suggestions and/or advice?

This same thing has been happening to me. I was raped a year and a half ago and developed a cyst shortly after. At this point the cyst was the size of a piece of rice. Went to the gyno and she said to just leave it alone. Went six months later and it was the size of a pea. We watched it for another six months, treating it with hot compresses daily and salt baths. At the year and a half mark (last week), it tripled in size. Went in and had emergency surgery to drain the cyst. Found out that it was damaged tissue from the trauma. From my understanding, it can occur from any sexual activity that rubs, or other exercise regimes that are close to that area (I also ride horses and bike, could very easily have intensified the problem). I'm healing now, but the incision site is still swollen. GO see your gyno and get it looked at. It may be nothing, or it could be an infection and need to be treated at once. Good luck ladies!

I am so glad I came across this. I seem to have developed very small rough pimple like bumps on my labia minora. They also do not look like anything I have seen on the internet. They do not hurt, itch, or cause me any pain when I urinate. I have had them for about a week. I don't believe they are from herpes because they are not fluid filled or painful. When I visited the doctor I was told that some yeast was found in my urine and told to take an OTC treatment. However, they are unfortunately still there. I'm really nervous about this issue but thankful that there are others out here that can discuss their experiences. If anyone has any idea what this is please reply!!! Thanks

I had this same problem. I thought I had just pulled a hair or something a fe weeks ago. Then, earlier this week the pain just intensified and I couldn't even wipe when I used the restroom. It hurt to walk, to sit, to stand, etc. I am a full-time student and I have no insurance, and I have no gynocologist anymore. I was really dreading seeing someone. I finally took myself to the ER & they said it was a pilonidal cyst, in my labia. (My brother had had a pilonidal cyst years ago, in the normal place- the tailbone area.) The cyst was lanced, drained & packed (all of this without premedication). I yelled & tried to not use profanity! It hurt like the dickens. As I sit and type this, I have gauze packed in the wound. Very comfortable. (My toddler daughter tells people that her momma has paper in her potty.) I am supposed to go back and have the packing removed tomorrow. I am also on the antibiotic Bactrim. I hope I never get another one of these. I also hope and pray the unpacking is not as terrible as the packing was!

Hi, I had a spot like thing on my labia about 2 years ago, I popped it and ever since I have had a weird blister/lump where the spot was. It hurts a bit to touch but otherwise causes no discomfort if I leave it alone. I have no other symptoms and i've had it so long that surely it can't be anything sinister? I have no idea what it could be, I've tried to pop it but it seems that there is nothing to pop, and it hasn't really changed in size at all. Any ideas?

How comforting to know I'm not alone to go through this problem. I've had these occur on my left labia minora once in a while for the past 6 years and I'd never really known what they were until today. For my part, they usually appear after a skin trauma (a scratch, a tear, an intense rub). My only advice, heat pads. They work well, take away the discomfort and help the cyst to heal.

Wow, thank you so much for sharing! I went to the doctor about this and she told me to use Ivory or Dove soap and wear cotton underwear. She said it was stress related. That there isn't anything I can do. I figured I was the only woman in the world with this problem. I guess we don't go around the grocery store talking about our itchy painful bumps down there do we? I am so happy I am not alone. I am so sorry so many of you have to suffer too though. I believe this is stress related. It is also very embarrassing when it comes to my sex life. I have yet to tell my boyfriend of over 2 years about this. I was always afraid - what if he is grossed out.... But I don't really think guys get grossed out as easily as we do. I agree with an earlier poster - why can't someone find a cure? My girlfriend told me to try the medicated douche. Has anyone tried this? I am about willing to try anything to get this over with. As if stress isn't enough for us to deal with.
Good luck to us all!
Good luck to us all!
