HI, I've got a lump under my right armpit. I have had 3 bad infections of the last year or two, due to MRSA. They have all included lumps-on on the knee, on in the groin area, and on on the hip. Once popped they spurted puss like nobodies business! I was on Flucloxacillin for a while about 1g/day...I also was admitted to hospital for vancamicin treatment. the lump under my armpit is huge! I have tried popping it, but no puss comes out-and its still bl**dy sore! Could it be a swollen lymph node (i think thats the right term) or anything else? Please help! Im 15 by the way, and talking to my parents results in large amounts of fuss and trouble, but I will go to them if necessary... p.s. I had something similar on my leg, and after a while it went away...so that is why im waiting. Im also taking 500 mg Flucloxecilin dose/day. Please Help!!!! Thank you so much.
Edit: Sorry this is in the wrong forum, im new to this!

Could this be something related to deoderant as well? Thanks Tom.
It's either a swollen lymph node or staph. Most likely it is staph! Especially if you play any sports
If you were prescribed Flucloxacillin and this cleared your infection up from those previous infections, then you DIDN'T have MRSA because MRSA is a form of STAPH that is resistant to Flucloxacillin. However, Flucloxacillin is used to treat a common form of Staph aureaus that is on everyone's skin, harmless, until it finds that opportune break in the skin. Acne can sometimes be staphy.
Anyhow, you are 15 and that means PUBERTY, and PUBERTY means BODY HAIR starts growing. When BODY HAIR starts growing, sometimes it gets impacted or "ingrown". Its pretty common.
The PAIN is due to the swelling for the most part. My son used to get these and he used ICE for about 15 min at a time. I know everyone says "HEAT" but many times that just increases the swelling and the pain. So try some ice for 15 minutes at a time.
Also, ask your parents if you can take an anti-inflamatory like ALIEVE (Naproxen). If its 225mg per pill, you can usually take 2 pills in the morning and evening to reduce the swelling, and it helps a bit with pain.
If you still have pain. you can take 1 extra strength tylenol every 4 hours at the same time as the naproxen but be VERY careful to track when you take it because tylenol is easy to overdose on in a 24 hour period.
Now, that bump.. DONT POP OR SQUEEZE it. If you see a hair coming out of it, you can pull it out. It will hurt but it will help if its involving an ingrown hair.
Now, you can use a "triple antibiotic" cream on it and cover with guaze to reduce irritation and protect the wound.
the first night, you might want to take a face wash cream called panoxyl 10% strength and dab it on the TIP of the bump. NO WHERE ELSE. It will DRY that sucker up a good bit like a vampire who's starving.
WARNING: If you get a fever of 99F or higher, then YOU NEED to go to the DR. Fever is a sign that the infection is getting worse and your body is having to kick up the immune response. The Dr will swab it. He will give you a broad spectrum antibiotic. The swab will take 2-4 days to culture/ lab results. If the infection gets worse in that time, the Dr will have the necessary info about the infection to go to a specific medicine geared at killing it. DONT play pretend Dr. if you have a fever. Fever is when you call it quits and let the professionals take over.
DONT POP that stuff.
Also, if you get acne on your chest, face, or back.. wipe it with RICE WINE VINEGAR or APPLE CIDER VINEGAR every evening and let it dry. Yes, it has a funny wang smell but in about a week you will understand why I told you this.
After a few days, start wiping with 1/2 water, 1/2 vinegar. Gradually keep adding more water as the months pass, as long as your acne is under control. Eventually, you won't have to use it and your acne won't come back. The vinegar changes the PH of your skin and this stops the bacterial infection from spreading.

during puberty, I had a huge lump under each arm... egg size, and small pea-sized lumps under each nipple. They hurt to touch, especially the armpit lumps. but they were all gone within a few weeks. I'm assuming it's caused by a concentration of hormones during puberty.
But If you research this on medical sites, you will only find mention of the nipple lumps during male puberty, but no mention anywhere of the large armpit lumps during male puberty (at least I personally haven't seen it mentioned anywhere)
I'm guess that means most boys do not get large armpit lumps during puberty, but I did, and I assume I am not the only one.
