i had a tuberlor pregnancy surgery in 2009 and my legs got numb after that, it stayed numb for a few years then finally went away on its own. last Tuesday i had gall bladder surgery and my thighs have been numb ever since, some people told me it may be from the anesthesia they gave me. im pretty sure this time its from the surgery because the last couple times it got like that i had a surgery!

Nerves are tricky things. The area you are describing is supplied by the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve. Several things could be occurring - irritation, entrapment, injury, neuropraxia, etc. Most of the time nerve issues resolve with time - months and years. Occasionally, there is an intervention that can release the nerve from entrapment. This has just happened to me, on day 7 after abdominal surgery. Since I have a blood clotting disorder, mine had to be immediately ruled out first. Excess fluids, position on operating table, recovery sleeping positions, etc, can all lead to irritation or pressure on the LPC nerve. if it's possible to change sleeping position, (not for me though), and light waling and stretching, to repreposition muscles and nerves and redistribute post-opp fluids, especially if you have Jackson-Pratt drains, as i do. Massage, warm bath or compresses, and wrapping with light compression fabric, or shorts, should help desensitize the constant reminder of numbness. I am wearing an abdominal binder, but also added athletic compression shorts to wear under regular clothing. This helps tremendously with the pins & needles and numbness that is accentuated with touch. I do hope your symptoms have improved.

It's actually caused by a grounding pad placed on your tigh for grounding the unit used to coterize bleeding areas. They use an electrical heat unit that requires grounding and your thigh was part of the circuit. I have the same numb area and my doctor didn't lie to me when I asked him what caused it. He told me it should go away in a few months but it hasn't yet. It's been about two months so far.

I have the east same issue! Right thigh after Gallbladder surgery it's been two weeks! Of course my surgeon is saying the same thing as everyone else's surgeon! I find it humorous that every surgeon seems to think its not their fault but it was not a pre existing condition before surgery! Any answers on this yet?
Thanks

I had my gallbladder removed 6 days ago and I am having sharp pain in my heel and tingling in my foot that sometimes runs all the way the back of my leg and to where my butt cheek meets. I thought it was from laying in bed but it gets worse as I walk or stand on it. Left a message with my surgeon. Any ideas?

Had surgery for bladder stones and enlarged prostate and I am now experiencing much of the same problems you describe: numbness on the outside of my thigh and stabbing pains that feel as if someone is stretching my muscle and snapping it like an elastic band. My thigh is also very sensitive or painful to the touch. Its been about 5 weeks since the surgery and I have yet to see any improvement other than the stabbing pain comes less frequently.

January 2013 I had my abdomen opened up for colorectal cancer removal. As soon as I was off pain meds I noticed my left knee was numb as well as my right thumb to right shoulder. Everyone said it was from being strapped down during seven hours of surgery. After several months of rehab on my shoulder and manipulation by my chiropractor (Active Relief Technique) , my arm is almost good as new. My knee is still numb two years later, but with little discomfort. One thing learned; when getting any type of scan, I do not allow them to put any of my limbs in extreme positions!

I had the same thing in my left leg surgeon seemed surprised and said it was probably the way i was on the table. I saw my family doctor and he said you'd be surprised how common this is .The surgeon sent me to the neurosurgeon who kepy saying I didnt have a stroke and it was from having the surgery. He said you would be surprised how often this happens . My family doctor explained there is a nerve that runs from the belly down to the leg , He said it may go away or not go away. I had my sugery in Oct 2015 and my leg is still the same .

I have upper let thigh numbness after a laparoscopic gallbladder removal and at the same time a right ovarian cyst removal , I spoke with my doctor and he explained that the machine they use to cauterize has an electrical field that they stick a pad to your thigh that's hold the electrical current and that it causes numbness afterwards and then prickling sensation but it should go away with in a couple of days . Finally someone said the truth !!!!
