My 80 year old dad has got an infection in his leg and has had for nearly 2 weeks now.
He was on normal antibioticsa for a week and they did nothing to help it, in fact it got worse. As this was over the bank holiday, the emergency doctor was called out who prescribed far stronger antibiotics for another week.
At first, they seemed to be working and the pain subsided but last night, he was in too much pain to sleep and the infection has now travelled up his leg and is also in the other leg.
For the first week, he was able to hobble about as necessary but for the last 5 days, he has not been able to move out of his armchair. I mean this very literally, not even to go to the toilet or to bed and a bucket has had to do for bodily functions.
I cannot see how we can do anything else but to admit him to hospital in this condition but, having rung the doctor numerous times, all they can say is to wait another day or two so the antibiotics have time to kick in. He's now over half way through the second prescription and it's getting worse!
He doesn't want to go into hospital against the doctors advice but the doctor has not even seen him in nearly two weeks and when the emergency doctor came, he didn't even examine him. Should I just get him to hospital? I would have done so earlier but we cannot move him so will need to call an ambulance

yes call an ambulance and get him into hospital. this could be very serious for someone of his age. Get him assessed in hospital, noone will tell you off for calling an ambulance in this situation.
