In Oct of 2010 I did not turn on a light walking down the stairs and missed two steps. I ended up in the ER, I was referred to a specialist who told me I had a lisfranc fracture of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th. I was placed in a walking booking, after 12 weeks, my foot never healed and needless to say I had to have surgery. I was told it never healed correctly because I have an extremely high instep. On Dec 30, 2010 I had 3 screws, a plate and bone grafting done. I was non weight bearing for 3 months then slowly went back into the boot, and had physical therapy. After everything was complete around the 6 month mark, I still had some pain,it felt like bruising. I was told that was from the plate and bone grafting, the plate is very uncomfortable, you can see and feel it. It was decided in July that I would go back to my doctor in November to discuss having the plate removed. Well over the past couple months my foot has slowly started to hurt more and more. I went back to my doctor today to discuss plate removal and to discuss the pain. Well, it was discovered that because of my high instep, my 5th metatarsal has been taking all the weight and that now needs to have surgery. I am feeling really down about this because I really do not want to start the whole situation over again. However with out the surgery it will just continue getting worse. I was told last year that there was the slight chance of this happening. So it looks like the doctor is going to go in and remove the existing hardware and place new hardware in the 5th. Has anyone ever had to have a second surgery like this?
