I normally only read others situations but have been dealing with pain for over 8 years. I had an anterior cervical fusion 3, 4, 5, and 6. I was desperate at the time and went through injections and did everything before making the decision to have this surgery to relieve the pain. Unfortunately for me it did not work. In fact I am in worse pain and now 47 years old. I am married to a terrific man who is successful pilot of many years and 7 children from 13-26 and granddaughter. From a large family myself and was always so active and very athletic. I used to be able to dance as a dancer, back flips and in General loved to live life. My pain is getting worse as I heard your fusion above and below will weaken in time. I smile each day and am in an executive position. Busy in life but suffer each day. Try to smile on the outside but to even my husband feel like they will never understand our pain or no way in hell if they lived in our hell would they even think twice about living our life.
I am an attractive women who many tell me they wish they could be me. I am depressed underneath as I am sick of feeling this horrific pain. Hard to ever sleep as I am never comfortable. Feeling you have to not talk about your pain as to please others. I feel what you are going through truly! I do not take pain medication and won't under no circumstances.

Wish you the best!

I had 2 neck surgeries. Neither of them was a really big deal at all. Sore for a week pretty much. I have some nerve damage now since comp jerked around before approving the surgery. Hope you don't wait too long. And whatever you do don't close that comp case. Leave it open forever.

I like a kid in a. Candy store to get the surgery. Your rambling is identical to everything i say. My main thing now is my right hand hurts like i loaded trucks all at UPS. Hard to explain. Even hard to use my smartphone.
Did you get that..?? I think i will always have pain. I know its been a while for u but any advise for my hand. I would love. 3 weeks i still wont take brace off. First i hated it. Now its my best friend...it actually alleviates the pain less pills.

MAY of 2017...hope you get to read this, although you may have already had the surgery...GOD, I HOPE YOU HAVEN'T !!!
I had cervical fusion of C5-C7 in 1998...I have been one miserable, depressed and angry woman ever since. My weird pain/symptoms started shortly after my surgery and have progressed. 2009 (after 3 years of fighting for disability benefits) I was awarded social security disablity and cannot work, My surgery caused FIBROMYALGIA and sometimes I have seizures, drooling on myself, can't walk, slurred speech, uncontrollable jerking and just sit like a zombie until it all passes.
I really do not have a life anymore but I SURE AS HELL HAVE A LOT OF ANGER.
There's more that I deal with...and I research all the time to attempt some relief from all the things I suffer through/with. DON"T HAVE THAT SURGERY, I BEG YOU...

No-one can do anything because of the metal. Did you find anything yet. I am try dry needling which helps break up the tight muscles causing spasms, maybe that will help all the best fellow sufferer, lynn

I was 42 years young when I was in a accident that broke my neck at c1-c2. My right shoulder was blown out. There was a 45%rotator cuff and 45%labrum tear. The emergency room doctors put me in a soft neck brace for three months while the neck fracture healed. I was also diagnosed with a close head injury and the left vertebral artery was dissected. The cervical discs at c5-6-7 were ruptured with bone spuring. This all happened 10 years ago. My neck was fused with titanium hardware at C5-C7 9 years ago. Like you pain is daily. I have tried most everything as I am sure you have to. Don't give up!!! If you haven't tried a rhyzotomy to burn the nerve endings at your most effected levels this could give you months of relief. I am finding that with years of exposure to chronic pain and all of the chemicals I am allergic to most of the injections and contrast now. I would suggest you seriously see if a warm and dry year around climate could help you. Also, seek out eastern medicine as well. Depending on where you live maybe you could try cannibis patches for nerve pain. True more natural your approach the better! Best of luck to you!!

I had a cervical fusion in 2011.. Had a car accident in 2015 had this surgery done in Nov. 2015 cervical fusion C- 3--c-5 o graft using my bone from my right hip then the surgeon leaves 4 months after my surgery. This surgeon broke hardware at c-5 plate which is fused. I went to 9 surgeons one surgeon wanted to do a posterior cervical fusion put in all new disc from c-2 -c-7. I said heck no, Never want to have that done. I did see a neurosurgeon on June 26,2017. He said i have permanent nerve damage and whiplash. My face will quaver I can feel the nerves in my face and it hurts, both arms and hand go numb, vocal cord damage , swallowing problems, my neck is in 24/7 pain,Very painful to lay down or bend down. I sleep 3 to 4 hour a night. I lost a lot of neck muscle . Once these nerves have been cut they have no where to go they will not heal there is nothing you can about what's done it done..

I had first surgery from C5 to C7 w titanium cages in 99, followed by years of severe headache, but even preceded by decades of headache and backache. As I had spinal stenosis the surgery was like a liberation for me, as I had barely been able to move my legs and arms, which was restored after surgery. Just now, a month ago I had surgery on C4, at the same time removing the old metal plate and screws. Like you I was barely able to swallow in hospital and still have a lump in the throat but its getting better. My doctor told me it could be a hematome in the throat and I would have to go to hospital if it didnt improve. Luckily, I feel it nowhas improved so I can stand it, so I just wouldlike to pass on the explanation of this lumpfeeling to you. I avoid drinking or eating very hot or taking a very hot bath - at this moment anyway only showers, in order not to increase blood flow. Ask your doctor if it could be a hematome bothering you and what to do about you if it gets too bad.

as I read your pain issues I so much feel your pain and know it, all to well. I am going to have my fourth cervical surgery in a few weeks to replace a donor disc that my body rejected from 2 years ago, when I had c4/5 & c6/7 replaced. In 2009 I had my 1st donor disc replacement in c5/6 after I felt like I was being straggled all the time the pain was horrific. After only 5 months they removed the plate and 4 screws! What a relief. No more pain, I actually felt normal. Freedom. However I suffer from degenerative disc disease. Four other family members have it as well. So in 2015 when symptoms returned and worse. This time c4/5 & c6/7 had to have donor disc replacement. This time it's been two long years of pain and begging to remove my plate. finally changing neurosurgeons we found out my c6/7 disc is completely gone as well c6 is fractured, my body rejected the donor disc. After really talking to my new doc, he believes my nerves in my neck are being pinched off. He believes when they go in for this he can somehow relieve this. He believes most of my pain is do to this. He is the head surgeon for this group.
Massage has been the best thing. because my neck is so week my muscles have taken over and are in constant spasm. I am on dilaudid and Norco. I only take them when in pain. I had one doc tell me stay ahead of the pain and take every few hours. I was a zombie. So now I take only when Im really bad. But then again it's either no pain or really bad(mostly really bad) my surgery is in 3 weeks. they are going in the front removing everything. Turning me over and going in through the back. Has anyone had that done? I will post my results. Oh he also said " No C-Collar? Has anyone had no C-Collar? It's a relief of not having that for 6weeks but scary.
