Were u able to go without any anxiety or panic attacks after you quit taking it I don't want to rely on the meds but I don't want to experience the attacks

Ok guys, me too! I was in such a dark depression and constant panic after finding out I have a heart condition, I thought I'd go crazy or die. I tried not to take meds but finally decided to try. I tried a couple and had a hard time getting on. But then. I tried celexa. It has helped me tremendously. I've been happy and enjoying life..but the sad thing is I have gained 43lbs. In 8 months and I feel like a cow...even If i don't look like it i feel like and feel so flabby. I worked out so hard with a trainerand felt so good about my body before i got depressed. Now, i feel like i destroyed my hard work.  My doc said its b/c im feeling better but i know it's partly the med and the way the med makes me crave and enjoy food.my cardiologist says weight gain is not option, im not sure what my option is right now. I've always battled with depression off and on and to me its more chemical than circumstantial..but i don't know. I have a strong faith..my biggest questions right now are;does a smaller dose help? Even if the pounds don't all come off, can u at least tone the nasty flabby gut, butt, thighs? I really hate to buy yet another size up pants:(

I agree, I also experienced weight loss. when I was on Welbutrin I gained weight tremendously. I hope with long term usage of celexa doesn't make me gain weight. I'd hate carrying around the extra pounds because of some meds. So good luck to you all and I hope you find the med the suits you best ......stay blessed!!!!!

I have had the bariatric bypass 5 months ago and lost 50ls , but that was b/c of the shock to my system . im on 40mg of celexa a day for about four yrs , and for the past 3 months have only lost 8lbs and I workout 1-2 hrs a day and my pouch only holds 3-4 ozs by volume meaning I eat 2-3 small little pill cups pf proteins , I have cut all carbs from my diet except dairy and sweet potato . I believe the celexa is a big part of this stall in my weight loss . im going to see my Dr. in few days and ask him ( no tell him ) to take me off of celexa . I didn't do this surgery to have a pill keep my weight on . if anyone has any feed back its well appreciated .

Age 49 citalopram for 6 months started 105lbs, now 133 lbs. Taking myself off of them. Dr will find out in August on my next appt. This is BS.  Being OCD as well,  I walk 10 miles every day -every single day- 3 hours-darkness of night, winter, blizzards, rain  wind & snow, and still gained 25 lbs in 6 months. Started taking pill only every other day, then every other day excluding weekends, then started breaking pills in half, then taking 1/2 pill every other day. Doing each stage for 2 weeks. I have not had a pill for like 3 weeks now, no withdrawal. Was taking them for anxiety only, (driving mostly)Have lost no weight yet. Still walking 10 miles a day, but eating alot, but I ate alot before the meds.  Who knows.  I am taking vitmanins B and D and bougt a SAD light therapy light for my low seratonin.  Very frustrating, I know.

I am a 52 yr old woman who took Celexa for 13 years and gained 40lbs! Yep, I NEVER had a weight issue even after 2 pregnancies. Doctors insisted it wasn't Celexa until about 2 years ago one of them said it was possible. Well thanks for making me first of all fat and second of all crazy! Now I am 4 months Celexa free and the scale has not moved. I've tried Weight Watchers over the years too. I was told at one of the meetings you don't stand a chance if you take one of those types of meds. I wasted my time and money thinking I needed a better diet....wrong...I needed to rid my system of Celexa. I was put on it for anxiety and its been quite the challenge coming off it. Whatever you do don't stop cold turkey. Follow a weaning off plan to be kind to your system. I too am so sorry too that I took this med.

Well I am 67 and been on it for about 3 months. Dr. changed me from Prozac, he said it made you gain weight and celexa didn't, I felt hu ngry all the time. Well, here I am about 25 pounds heavier so I am stopping it. Do you have to wean yourself off it? I feel like a blimp and no energy, going to try WW again as that has been the only diet I have been on that helped.

Thanks Lori for info! I've been on 40 mg of Celexa for a cpl of years. Trying to do a 2 week taper till I'm off. I've gained around 20 lbs and I'm soooo disgusted with myself. I'm hoping the weight comes off after I stop celexa, but I have trouble exercising because of rheumatoid arthritis, can't jog because of COPD, BUT CAN walk & do chair yoga.

Well I don't know about most people but your doctor would be dead wrong in my situation. I've never been an emotional eater or even had a problem with weight. It sounds like your doctor was just trying to blame you instead of blaming the drug so they didn't have to admit it was the drug they prescribed you to be the cause. You have to be your own advocate with doctors and medicine. I was around 5'6 and 115-120 pounds, tiny my whole life. I got on celexa, lost weight at first, and then gained until I reached 140 pounds and immediately got off of it. I kept gaining weight and had to take a look at the ONLY thing that had changed within the last year and it was celexa. I know only one year older would NOT cause my metabolism to slow down SO drastically. I believe part of it is it increases your appetite substantially because I was eating like I had never eaten before when I was on it like I was starving all the time. But I didn't even realize I was doing it; again, I've never been an emotional eater. I was actually quite happy (because of the celexa probably) at the time I was eating so much. And the other part of it is the change in your body's metabolism it causes...a bad combination. I hope you got off of it and found a new doctor. Good luck.

I have been on Celexa for 15 years, in my mid 50's and have gained abt 35 pounds. My thyroid was removed 4 yrs ago, so I think that adds to the weight gain too. Just today I went to my PCP and we talked about the Celexa and alternatives. She also started a converstation about PCOS, interesting turn of events and just maybe an answer to all of this for me.
