I have been on the Depo shot for a little over four years, and no matter what I do, I cannot loose any of the weight that I have gained (a total of about 35 lbs.). I started the shot about two months after our daughter was born; a month after giving birth, I was in a size 14...a month after starting Depo, I was in a size 22. Eating right, exercising, NOTHING helped in loosing weight. I have now been off Depo for about 5 months, and people have starting mentioning that I look like I've lost some weight- but I've also been helping in Housekeeping at work too (mega-activity). I'm SO ready to be back to my pre/post baby size, it's insane. And sex drive. What's that?

I was first given depo at 17. Within 6-9 months I gained 80 lbs. I than plateaud but was never able to take the weight off. I received the depo again at 22. I gained 50 within 4-6 months. I was pregnant a third time, this time I was so sick during my pregnancy that I actually lost 25 lbs. After I had her, I started walking a mile -three miles a day. at four weeks I got on a scale, and I was still the same as my weight loss. two weeks later I had gained twenty pounds and I was still walking 1-3 miles a day. I beleive the depo has done something to my body. I want an inquisition into it and a class action law suite. for 8 years (off and on) I was on depo. I want to know why I was never taken off of it when I gained fifty pounds in a few months.....I'm mad and I want everyone else whose lives were ruined by excessive weight gain on the depo shot to come together. If enough of us speak up, we can get some resolution. If anyone wants to contact me my email addy is _[removed]_. If we all had thse problems while on depo...there are medical records to back up our claims. lets organize and get this drug of the market.

hey hun,
my name is debra and im really really FAT!! i had three shots of depo in 1995, i started to put on some weight so i stopped ......then i put on a hell of alot of weight. before i started depo i was 24 and a mum of a 4yr old and a 1yr old, i also weighed in at a natural 8 stone... ( my nickname had always been twiggy!). i am now 38, had a baby 18mths ago and weigh in at 15 and a half stone, i got to this weight by the end of 1996, and i have fluctuated up and down a stone, but ive never got to lose it.....am now considering paying for cosmetic surgery....im happy and confident in myself as a human being, but im just so miserable that i dont have the energy to do what i want, i cant find decent clothing, ( just cos im big doesnt mean my armholes need to be a foot wide!).....ive spoken to my doctors over the years, but i just get told eat healthier do exercise......why are they still using this stuff....also there is osteoporosis in my family, i shouldnt have been given depo to begin with.

im in the uk so idont know if im of any use ....but hey what the hell, im up for a bit of annoying!!!

HI, i started using depro vera after my first child cause i didnt want to get pregnant, but it has totally ruined my system, throughout the first 3 months, i didnt have any period, after the three months were over, i started bleeding for a month, so my obgyn gave me a drug to stop the bleeding, its been two months since the bleeding and i dont have a period yet. The side effects of the deprovera shot are too much, i dont advice any one to take it. It causes wait gain too.

I started the Depo around the age 14-15 n discontinued it just recently at the age of 19 due to the fact it stopped working. I got my period back n that was the whole reason I stayed on it after being on it for so long. I loved being on it, but I was so worried about gaining weight n all the other side effects. At the start of it, I weighed about 120-125, also still holding on to some baby fat then. As the years progressed especially after the past year or so, I've gone down to 105lbs. The most I did was, occasionally smoke a joint or drink a beer, n play a lot of Dance Dance Revolution (DDR). I worked in an arcade so, I constantly played that game. I don't know if it was due to excessive-steady exercise for 6-8 months straight pretty much everyday, but I noticed a 20lb. drop or so within that time. I at one point weighed 95lbs, being at a height of 5'2 that's a little under normal. Since discontinuing the shot, I've gone back up to 105lbs. n that's quite healthy I'd say. I eat just as much as I always have, never an appetite change.

One thing is.. I've been off the shot since around January n haven't stopped bleeding since. I know a lot of women out there are still waiting for their period to return, I sit here only waiting for it to stop. If anyone can give me an answer to why I have had excessive, non-stop bleeding such as this. Please reply. I should just go see a doctor, but haven't found the time.

thanks

I've been on depo for 7 years now, Im 26 years old. when i started taking depo, i weighed about 47 kilos, I am quite short and very small-boned. I now weigh 58 kilos despite eating healthier than ever. Every month i just pick up more weight. My sisters who are older than me are still tiny and Im now practically the obese one in my family. Ive spoken to my GP and we've agreed to stop the depo shots from next month. Does anyone know (from experience) how long it takes for the weight to start coming off after your last jab?

I lost about 15 pounds on depo. i've been off of it for about a year and a half and i've pretty much gotten back into a normal cycle the past 6 months - in those same 6 months i've gained back over 10 pounds. i just want to cry!
i remember when i was on depo (perhaps it was just in my head) but when i was getting close to the next shot, i felt like i my appetite would increase.

I've been on depo for six years. I'm 5'10" and before depo I was 140 lbs.

I'm currently up around the 168 lb mark.

I've tried dieting, extreme exercise, cutting out all sugars, increasing water consumption, cutting out breads, increased B vitamins, tried weight loss supplements (NV, hydroxycut), eating power bars and drinking shakes... nothing helps.

The weight sits mainly on my hips, butt and thighs.

I recently tried ephedrine. 24 mg twice a day keeps me from feeling hungry, so I can use up some of the fat reserves I've built up. It's been a week now, and I feel and notice a huge difference.

If you've tried everything else, I recommend this. I've been fighting this battle from my first shot. This is the only thing that's helped.

I have been on Depo-Provera for 8 years and have gained over 100 lbs. I actually had a loss of appetite being on Depo yet I continuously gained weight. I had my thyroid tested, my blood sugar, EVERYTHING. My Dr said the only explination was the slowing of my metabolism from the Depo shot and about 6-12 months after my last shot my metabolism shoudl speed back up to normal. Well, my last shot was August 21, 2007 so we'll see if what she says is true.

Boy, Is that the truth i have been on depo for 7 years i have gained a tremendous amount of weight Espically around the middle my stomach is just gross. I have been off of it for 4 months now and i have lost all the weight and my stomach is starting to go down as well. I am really concerned though because i sam losing the weight so quickly. I just have not had a good apetite. I have always been small so i enjoyed a little bit of the thickness but i started to feel as though i was retaining large sums of fluid!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I don't think the weight EVER comes off.

I started getting depo shots in 1995 when I was 16. I took them for a couple years and in that time gained about 50lbs. Since then the only time I've been able to lose any of that weight (about 30lbs of it) was when I went on Fen-phen when I was 18. As soon as I stopped taking the pills though, the weight came right back.

I'm 29 now and still carrying that extra 50lbs. I'm an acupuncturist and I've been vegan for many years. I lead an extremely healthy lifestyle. My friends and family all say that I'm the healthiest person they know and they can't believe that I'm overweight.

I would advise anyone considering taking this drug to find another option. It seems to permanently alter your endocrine system in a way that can't be reversed. I can't believe there are still doctors out there prescribing it to young girls! I'm also expecting to see an enormous increase in hormone-dependent cancers as those of us who took the drug as teenagers reach middle age.
