A friend of mine has gradually lost his voice over the last year or so. Now, his voice is very soft and sounds a bit like a saw when he does talk. What can be the cause behind this, and is there any cure for this? I feel sorry for him every time I have to listen to him and I'd like to do something to help.
Does he smoke or drink a lot of alcohol? Because that sounds like something that could easily result in the loss of a voice. It could also be due to cancer or some other condition, but I guess that you will never know unless you ask him. I mean, there are so many things that could have caused this that we can't even begin to guess, really?

Hi, thanks for your reply, but my friend does not drink or smoke and did not have any kind of cancer as far as he knows. I have known him for six years now so I am sure that I would be aware if something like that was going on, don't you? He actually says that he has no idea what happened to him so that is part of the mystery.
