I'm sorry each of you is going through this. It does pass, but is sure is odd while you're dealing with it. I never figured out what it was, but I was NOT pregnant, nor was it due to overworking my abdominal muscles. I was driving my husband crazy making him put his hand on my stomach every time it started up- which was several times a day! But I was not in pain, and I was able to work and carry on regular life just fine. Just weird, annoying and distracting little flutters throughout my days. It lasted about 6 weeks for me- on and off, some days with more activity than others. About a month passed before I realized I hadn't felt it in a long time. So just rest assured, it WILL pass! Just remember, you're not going crazy! And although most doctors won't be able to find anything wrong, you know all of us who have taken the time to write something here share your story. So hang in there.  :)

I toah have this strange fluttery sensation. I had a short period starting on the 13th ending the 15th (pretty normal for me). On the 17th or 18th I had the most excruciating upper abdominal pain I think I have ever had. It made me feel extremely nauseous. Ever since that day I have had mild cramping in my right lower abdomen...which has recently shifted to right and left lower abdominal flutters. I have had several headaches over the past 1.5 wks as well. The pregnancy thought has crossed my mind but I did just have my period last 2wks ago and I also hate how my mind automatically goes there when something doesn't feel normal. nor sure what is going on but I would love to ease my mind..

I am 27/ female with 3 kids, I am on Implanon Birth control and though that the medication did not held up and I was pregnant for the last 5 months this has been going on with a thumping and sometimes it feels like a baby elbow poking through, ive taken a pregnancy test the last 4 months every 2 weeks, because i could swear i am pregnant but nothing but negative tests. What could this be... So confused.

I have been having the same sensation, lower right abdomen, headaches, and I know its not pregnacy because I have had a tubal ligation and just had my cycle. The feeling is very similar to the "quickening" a woman experiences in early pregnacy and I can visibly see my stomach twitch. This has been going on for a week now and is very disturbing. I have googled abdominal spasms and this is what I have come across I would suggest if you are having any other symptoms such as pain in other areas of your stomach or back, legs or flu-like symptoms to please follow up with your PCP. My doctor is currently running various tests to pinpoint the cause of my symptoms:

Children and adults can have sporadic abdominal spasms and there are some disorders and diseases that can cause them so it is always best to check for a correct diagnosis. A ‘spasm’ is the involuntary and sudden contraction of your abdominal muscles and it can lead to mild or severe pain lasting short or long periods. If you experience these spasms it is your muscles being stretched or strained but you need to check that this is not because you have a disease or organ disorder in the abdominal cavity. The main causes of abdominal muscle spasms are:Pregnancy – spasms and cramping can occur during your uterus changing shape, hormonal changes, stress, over-exercise, implantation of embryo, miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy and labour

Over-exercising - too much exercise and incorrect posture during exercise especially when lifting weights can cause cramps and spasms

Abdominal migraine – this is seen in children and very rare. Chemical changes associated with histamine and serotonin trigger an abdominal migraine attack

Urinary Tract Infection – or kidney stones forming

Food allergy – any food that your body cannot tolerate

Gallstones - obstructing the path of bile can lead to infection and pain can sometimes be felt towards the shoulder, lower back and lower abdomen

Obstruction in the digestive tract - hernia, internal bleeding, ulcers or a growing tumour

Constipation – hardened stools and difficulty in passing them causes cramps and spasms

Diarrhoea – most common reason of abdominal cramps in adults and children

Ovarian cysts and fibroids – can lead to severe cramping and pain

Menstruation – common in many women

Appendicitis – common cause of spasms

Digestive system diseases – there are many including, acid reflux disease, cancer, hiatal hernia, gastritis, tumours, celiac disease, stomach ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome, pancreatitis, Crohn's disease, diverticulitis and cholecystitis

Bacterial diseases of digestive system – bacterial or viral infection, food poisoning Treatment will vary depending on the diagnosis and overall health of the patient. Home remedies can be taken like lemon and ginger drinks for gas. To avoid a lot of digestive problems you should have a high fibre diet and cut out fast food and alcohol as much as possible. Drink lots of water and eat food that is high in probiotic bacteria as this will maintain healthy levels of intestinal flora which relieves constipation. Ginger root tea is a good remedy for abdominal spasms but if you find that you keep getting these cramps and spasms do ask your doctor to try and diagnose what the problem might be. Once he understands your symptoms and has assessed your health and medical history he will be able to advise the correct therapy for you and may prescribe painkillers and certain medications. For many people the correct diet, healthy lifestyle and regular abdominal exercise can keep abdominal spasms at bay.

I have been to the ER several times and in different hospitals, I have been told that this is anxiety attacks or panic attacks.

I just returned from a whole day at the ER trying to figure out what is causing the pain in my lower right abdominal area (near my hip bone but deeper).  CT scan showed a cyst on the opposite ovary, fibroids on my uterus. Urine test was normal, no cause for concern in the blood test either.  Didn't want to wait and then have my appendix rupture, but they didn't see any cause for concern there (although others said they had good test results and then their appendix ruptured).

I have no other symptoms... sometimes temp around 100 F, other days down to 97 F.  Weird. I also have had some pain in my right side of my back, generally in one spot though.  Wondered if anyone else had some weird back pains making it sometimes difficult to walk.  Walking sometimes VERY painful on the abdominal area mentioned before. Not overweight, physically fit and would like to get back to the gym.  Chiropractor also puzzled. Ordered an Xray and things looked fine. Never had back problems before... the pain radiates to the front.

Spent a fortune at the ER today and have no more information than I started with... plus I still hurt. Looking for some hope & answers if possible.

Same twitchy lower stomach mid way right about at the belt level.  No pain but visibly noticeable.   I cooked some chicken on the grill a little over a week ago and noticed some parts may not have been cooked to a full white or brown.  Noticed the twitching not a few hours later and still is happening. I'm hoping its a simple bacteria issue and my body will take care of it in time.  From the looks of it, this seems to be the main case here, but i wouldn't recommend lack of attention to it.

Try getting tested for celiac disease, I was told those intestinal "flutters" were one of the symptoms. Got tested and was positive, no more gluten for me.

I'm a 22 year old female with exactly the same fluttery feeling in my lower left abdomen. It's been going on for about a week and a half now with constant daily headaches. I do have PCOS but have no idea if its linked. Not sure if I'm pregnant due to my very irregular cycle. Help!

I have spasms in my lower abdomin also. However, two days ago my lower back muscles were bothering me from exercise. I believe it is nerves from the lower back. I am going to stretch my back.
