I want you to answer the following question within 5 seconds (okay, no longer than 10) once you see it. You are on your honor not to change your answer once you have entered it. I'm just curious about something.
My answer that I gave follows this post.

The question:

What is the distance of a marathon?

26.2 miles - precisely measured :)

26.2 miles.

I was trying to think of the yardage but couldn't get it right. I knew it was 3 something 5. I was thinking 345 though.

The original distance was 24. something miles. I think it was changed in the early 1900's?

The reason I was curious as to how many people actually know the marathon distance, I've ran 9 or 10 of them now so you would think I would know what distance I'm running. And I was vaguely aware there was some yardage amount in there but I thought it was 26.2 and 365 yards.

When Garmin updated their software to correct their marathon calculation from 26.2 to 26 miles and 365 yards I actually had to look up the marathon distance to verify they were correct. I felt like Duh! when I looked it up.

I guess I just blithely assumed that since the half marathon is 13.1 miles the full must be by definition 26.2. Wrong.

The correct answer is 26 miles, 365 yards.
