hehe u said "come"...

but yeah reproducing fluid burns a lot of calories i would have thought...

Haha this made me giggle especially all the people trying to throw technicalities in there like it's an extremely complicated matter =p The fact is all the people that said there's no sure way to tell or there's to many variables are right. It's got nothing to do with "everything you do burns calories", though that's true this guy didn't ask if you COULD burn them off jerking it he asked how MANY.

A few basic things that matter here that have been mentioned...
Position
Speed
Intensity
Effort

Something not mentioned.... your fitness level. The more fit you are the less you will burn no matter how you do it, the more out of shape you are the more it will burn, this comes down to how much effort your BODY has to make. You may not feel you're exerting much energy because if you're like me you've done it enough to go blind but your body may be putting more effort into it than your brain...

Basically put... it burns calories, how much? We don't know.

calories are a measurement of energy, really. technically, Calories are what you see on nutritional facts and hear about burning, which are 1000 calories. your body uses energy to do EVERYTHING. breathing results from muscle contractions forcing air into your lungs, your heart beat is caused by a contraction of many muscles in the heart, and of course movement, repair, digestion, etc etc. everything requires energy. that's why anorexics lose weight instead of stay steady.

off the top of my head without going into EXTREME detail, masturbation uses the following muscles directly...

forearm (controls fingers, thus, grip), biceps/triceps (controls up down movement of forearm), shoulders (controls rotation/movement of entire arm)

by directly i mean you INTEND for these things to happen. it could also use your pecks, abs, traps for holding your upper body rigid (which we tend to do heh) and quads/calves should you be so pro it feels good enough for your legs to quake lol. obviously more would be used like back etc. the intensity used is, as mentioned elsewhere, dependant upon the variables.

but those specific muscles aside, your heart will pump faster which is great cardio it's good for your heart/arteries and burns more calories than a resting heart, breathing hard is your diaphragm for working harder, the energy required to deliver sperm into the semen and ejaculate and reproduce the semen...

it takes a f@#$^&* lot out of you. it requires ENORMOUS amounts of energy. a Calorie is a big unit. a pound of body fat [for storage] is 3500 Calories... that's a lot.

if you want to lose weight.... don't. get healthy not thin. eat right, stay in shape, exercise, and have FUN. don't make your life obsessing over the next 3 pounds. take personal care of you and the way you look. shave, get a haircut, use cologne, but don't worry about your body.

be happy now, rather than waiting for later.

indeed. lol i think i'm in love with you!

Calories are acctually a measurement of heat

You burn calories from masturbating, mostly because your body has to spend extra amounts of energy to replace the new created sperm cells. This is why giving blood burns about 900-1000 calories.

this might sound stupid and it might be different for everyone but whenever i masturbate my sweat gland is activated pretty quick for something that doesnt look as active and my heart does begin to pump faster. Then again it may be different for everyone depending on weight and maybe other things,And maybe its not different maybe its the same.

A heat is... ?

Yup, heat is energy. Troll elsewhere.

Stay in shape! Masturbate! :-P

actualy its surprising how much sugar is present in semen simply to keep the lil guys swimming.. it acts as a sort of food for them to live on during their journey (to your kleenex as it were)
the increased heart rate also speeds up your metabolism temporarily so that more energy is burnt off per second than in normal activity and of corse the vigarous arm movement is also quite a work out.. although not contributing to calorie loss half as much as the other variables.
the ballpark figure of 100-120 calories is actualy quite low.. ejaculating has the power to temporarily knacker you out just like running a marathon would.. and thats nothing to do with how hard you beat it
so yes masturbation is a good way of burning off calories if your too lazy to run
just dont wank yourself blind! haha
(ps that doesnt happen.. just incase you were wondering.. id be blind as a bat by now if that were true)

There is one factor that should also be considered. While resting the number of calories you burn are based on how active you are. The more active you are, the more calories you burn while resting. Therefore, an individual who otherwise experiences a sedentary life style would burn more calories while resting the more often he or she would masturbate. In this way, the actual benefit is higher than the calories burned during the act provided the act is performed regularly. It would also be reasonable to assume that Masturbating shortly before bed would have the benefit of causing more calories to be burned during sleep immediately after.

On the other hand, if the individual is an athlete who would otherwise be doing more strenuous work during times of Masturbation, then the act would decrease the amount of calories while resting since we would compare this to what you would otherwise be doing.

As a rule of thumb, think of how active you would be if you were not masturbating. If you would say you would otherwise be inactive at those times, then there would be a higher resting metabolic rate. If you would otherwise be active then there would either be no difference or a lower resting metabolic rate.

The resting metabolic rate is added to whatever calories are burned from the act. So, in a way, the amount of calories burned are dependant on how often you do it. Doing the same work 10 times would burn more calories than just once and never again. An individual who masturbates 10 times daily will burn more calories each time as someone who masturbates once a day or less. (assuming all the other factors are the same)

Another factor to consider is body temperature, room temperature, and how much water you consume after the act. Generally, you would assume your body temperature to increase. This in and of itself burns calories as a calories is literally the measure of how much energy it takes to raise the temperature of water by a specific nominal amount. (I forget the exact number) and drinking water that is colder than your body temperature also in and of itself burns calories because in lowering your core temperature it forces your body to do the work required to bring the temperature back up again. Although many people don't know this, even body fat burns calories just being there although muscle burns so much more.

Remember a calorie is a form of energy.

1 cal = The amount of energy required to raise 1g of Water 1 degree Celcius.

So another way to help your body burn more calories is to be hot. also make sure you're drinking plenty of fluids. So an easy way to loose more calories, wrap one of those elsatic lap/workout bands arcross your stomach and leave it there all day, it will slightly raise your core temp so when you do anything you will burn more calories.

Wear weighted clothing. And fidgeting is good, it raises your BMR

That is correct, but somewhat misleading without all the facts. The problem is that, when a food label mentions a calorie, it is actually using kilo calories. Also known as Food Calories. So, if you consume 2000 Calories a day - as in, the calories on a food label - you are really consuming 2 million calories a day. That is, the kind of calories mentioned in the above equation. I know, it's very confusing, but you can see why they don't list scientifically correct calories on food labels. What makes the above misleading is that it is the food calories we discuss when talking about burning calories.

So to be more accurate:

The small calorie or gram calorie (symbol: cal) approximates the energy needed to increase the temperature of 1 gram of water by 1 °C. This is about 4.2 joules.

The large calorie, kilogram calorie or food calorie (symbol: Cal) approximates the energy needed to increase the temperature of 1 kilogram of water by 1 °C. This is exactly 1000 small calories or about 4.2 kilojoules.

.......

As for the energy burned masturbating: "When you perform a continuous exercise, you burn five calories for every liter of oxygen you consume" so how much are you breathing? That too can be misleading, because if you force yourself to breath fast without a physical exertion requiring it you can over oxidize. This will result in your cells getting less oxygen per breath so you are not burning as much. But it is generally a good rule to go on because our bodies use oxygen to literally burn calories. (fire needs oxygen, after all. Which is why we need it to live). Most people typically inhale about half a liter of air at a time, and not all of it is oxygen.

Something else to consider is where the mind is while masturbating. Obviously, it is in the gutter. But how much detail is being held? The brain burns 1/10th of a calorie per minute just to survive. But when a region of the brain is stimulated it burns substantially more. Just THINKING about having sex can burn about 2 calories a minute. Since Kickboxing burns about 10 calories a minute, you burn 1/5th the energy of such an intensive workout just doing the thinking part of masturbating. When you look at it that way, it makes sense that your whole body probably burns allot more calories masturbating than sitting on the couch and watching TV.
