Hi I have been on methadone for 7 years for pain. I went cold turkey off 80mg. The first month was absolutely hellish. I could not sleep. cold, diarrhea, restless legs and the whole gamut of symptoms. I am in week 10 and I still have syptoms of withdrawal  but only a fraction of what I had. Hot baths for leg cramps helps. Viamin B-12 AND an every day viatmin helps hel the body. Also drink plenty of sports drinks to replentish the minerals being washed out of your system. Sleep when you can, every bit helps. I didn't know that the seezing and running nose was a part of the withdrawal so I took cold medication. Bad move. Cold symptoms are a part of the withdrawal and cold meds only make the recovery worse. Eat! Eat good foods, healthy foods. Warning, after the physical withdrawal comes the depression. After years of being "happy" on methadone you are in for a disappointment. Depression sets in and you feel like using again. Do not be afraid to get professional help. It is tough being straight and dealing with the things we didn't deal with while on drugs. Take them one at a time. Check them off the list as you go. Feel good about each accomplishment. Be social. Talk to people, find joy in being alive! It is all about being well rounded and happy again. I am 58 with medical problems. The removal of Methadone from my life was the toughest thing I have ever done. Hang in there. If I can do it, so can you.
