a family member is in hospital with pneumonia in both lungs. the person had many health problems from the past and drs had this person on methodone 3 times a day. The ICU drs want to take away one dose a day and replace it with xanax. I am not comfortable with this decision because the person is alredy ver, very sick from the pneuminia and does not need any other things to deal with. Missing on dose today caused headache, increase in blood pressure, shakes and unease to the bowels. How can this be right for a person who has been so sick and in the ICU for 10 days due to the pneumonia? Please get back right away so I can confront the drs on this.
I take methodone everyday, and Xanex should not be taken at all while taking any amount of methodone. The mixture is deadly. I am a patient at a methodone clinic, and they are so serious about taking Xanex that you will be kicked out of the program if you continue to fail drug tests for Xanex. I can't believe that a nurse and/or doctor would give Xanex to someone prescribed Methodone! That goes to show how little people know about methodone. There are quite a few medications that you should not take while on methodone. SOme can send you into immediate withdrawl, while others can kill you. I had MY ob-gyn prescribed me Ultram, which is on the list of things not to take. I didn't know at the time, so I got them filled andtook one along with my antibiotic which was ALSO ON THE LIST!!!!! I got horribly sick. I could have very well sued the pants off of my "doctor". You need to be aware of what you are being given, you may think it is ok because your doctor should know. That is not always true though as you can tell by my story. Read up and learn the facts, don't be afraid to speak up if your doctor tries giving you something you know shouldn't be taken. It could be the difference between life and death.
Is it common that methadone is prescribed for chronic pain?
