I never had any issues w/ my perineum until after my first yeast infection when it seemed overly tender. I have a more acidic body so the acidic bodily fluid always agitated it. I found a couple remedies to help alkaline my body: 1/8 teaspoon baking soda in a cup of water OR 1/2 a lemon in a cup of warm water and drink either concoction once or twice a day. I don't take it that often, only when i can tell i need to alkaline my body's acidity. When i do, my perineum doesn't bother me at all! as far as the tears go, idk if this will help or not but it's worth a shot!

I had several episodes of small "paper cut" like tears in the lower vaginal area. I could get them from intercourse or even just "wiping" a little too roughly... After tests for STD's were all negative, and since I was getting "older" 40ishsss it might be hormonal. It was decided it was hormonal. I now take a vaginal creme from a bio-compounding center. These centers can mix the hormones in creams that you just rub into your skin!  My cream contains estrogen and testostorone and I insert 1 CC two or three times a week at bedtime. YEA! NO MORE TEARS! Most docs say hormone replacement by pill, patch, or shots are the same.  I have tried all.  They never worked like the compounded bio-idential cremes I now use!   When you 1st rule out STD's...look into hormonal issues no matter your age! You would be amazed how their levels affect everything from our personalities down to the skin of our vaginas!!!

Okay, I have been waiting for someone other than me to have this problem for a long time.  I am almost 42, and I have had this problem since I have been married, 22 years now.  I have had biopsy done, STD testing, etc., and the creams the doctors have given me over the years have never helped.  I went to an OB/GYN this past year, and he said it was a skin breakdown, to use A&D ointment daily and that should toughen it up.  I have had a hard time believing it could have been that easy and I am just finding this out now.  I have for many years avoided having sex due to the discomfort and pain this causes during intercourse.  Since some of you have heard the same thing about the A&D ointment, I am going to give it a try.  I sure hope this works!  Oh, and I had an episiotomy with my last child, and that did not fix the problem, so maybe that might work for some, but not for me.

Thanks and I will try to repost after a test run of the A&D.  If anyone else has had success with this or anything else, please post.  Thanks a bunch!

I've been frustrated with perineum tears for a couple years also.  I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one, but it stinks that there is no solution.  My doctor diagnosed the pre-menaposal thinning of the skin like some others said and gave me a prescription for a hormonal cream.  I still get them, but I can't say that I used the cream religiously.  I figure it's another one of those things we women have to suffer with and get no sympathy whatsoever.

My mother and I both have this. It is just thin skin and it's common.

the doctor prescibed clobetasol propionate .05% cream, also estrogen cream if you want to go all natural. These will help thicken the skin.

I have this problem too! However, I've never had sex so I'm not sure how it's came about. I first noticed it was sometimes stingy when I went to wipe myself with toilet paper after peeing - There was a tiny dot of blood on the paper. Is this maybe just a cut from the toilet paper or something else? I've had this problem continuously for maybe a year non-stop, and it can be quite discomforting as I always feel the need to rub at it when at the toilet. Any help guys?

I've recently starting having issues with this too, quite recently i noticed blood after using the bathroom and on the toilet paper and when i checked myself over i found my perineum is torn, though how I have no idea. It's been sore before but never torn and i'm not sexually active nor have I ever been so i know its not an STD or intercourse related. I did ask the doctor about it and was told rough treatment such as washing too vigorously in the area or wearing rough materials that might have rubbed it, or it drying out often could be potential causes. All the same i've not been given any advice as to how to treat it and prevent it in the future, I was told to disinfect the area and be gentle around it, but its happened again since the last time even taking the doctors advice... and this time around it pretty much won't stop bleeding.

I've had this on and off for years....my Gynae did a small surgery/local to correct it...was great for several years, now need it doing again! It was definitely splitting/bleeding/stinging during sex, but not itchy. I use vaseline to fix it...it works quickly.

To the guest saying "I wish it was herpes because then atleast I'd have a cure" - you may want to rethink that seeing as the herpes virus is incurable! Only antivirals and relief treatments are available! Ive been getting a tiny papercut-like tear for about a month now... Hurts when I wipe after using the toilet mostly and a little after sex. I know it can't be STDs or sex (pretty immune to the larger size of my partner after 3 years) but I never realised hormones could be so tricky. This has been recurring since I've been on the Qlaira pill so maybe I should try something else. Thanks girls! x

Ladies, remember A & D ointment has a petroleum base so it is of a "thick" constistency. It does not let the area breathe and stays on the surface of the skin which makes it a a prime target for bacteria. This means you can leave yourself open to bacterial infections.

It feels so relieving I am not alone! I've had this issue occur several times and I've came to the conclusion that every time I shave (a couple of days after) i will become irritated (redness, itchiness, vaginal mucus, discomfort, no odor but skin dryness and cuts). I am unsure If my vaginal skin is too gentle for my razor of just shaving overall in your genital area is bad! I am currently putting various creams to cure the itching and mouisterizer. I will start waxing as of now to see If this issue is improved! If so I will let you guys know!

hello. i've been suffering from similar symptoms. tiny skin tears and vertical recto-vaginal abrasions. i haven't been tested for herpes because each time i go, they're healed and there's no broken skin to swab, so i'm told to come back when the sores are present. my GYN doesn't seem to think it's herpes, but rather dryness and irritation from shaving, wearing thongs and/or tight fitting pants that causes chaffing, etc. i also have irritable bowel syndrome and i've noticed that when i have a flare up (loose bowels or constipation), it causes tiny tears in the same area from the stress of straining, etc...and it doesn't help that i have to wipe and cleanse repeatedly which worsens the symptoms. i still plan to get screened from herpes, just to rule it out, but given that my sores come and go fairly quickly (no more than a day or two), i think it's definitely my irritable bowel syndrome that's causing abrasions and tears. hopefully that helps someone. thanks for posting these responses. it's helpful read other's feedback.

I doubt that what bothers you isan std. More like the strain or pressure of your job or exercises,to much standing, sitting(really). For no rhyme or reason, I am periodically plagued with this tearing above my anal area. This skin is thin delicate. It is very hard to heal,I have to be careful not to resplit it when I use the bathroom or sit to long. I use a store brand antiseptic mouthwash (old school listerine style) along with soap(not purfumed-for a baby or ph balanced) & water to gently cleanse the area. It might be a little spicy feeling at first, but I swear by this treatment! Pat dry,lay uncovered for air to help heal the affected area. Don't forget the Preparation H or Vaseline. Just a thin layer to keep skin supple ! Repeat, repeat, repeat !
