I had several episodes of small "paper cut" like tears in the lower vaginal area. I could get them from intercourse or even just "wiping" a little too roughly... After tests for STD's were all negative, and since I was getting "older" 40ishsss it might be hormonal. It was decided it was hormonal. I now take a vaginal creme from a bio-compounding center. These centers can mix the hormones in creams that you just rub into your skin! My cream contains estrogen and testostorone and I insert 1 CC two or three times a week at bedtime. YEA! NO MORE TEARS! Most docs say hormone replacement by pill, patch, or shots are the same. I have tried all. They never worked like the compounded bio-idential cremes I now use! When you 1st rule out STD's...look into hormonal issues no matter your age! You would be amazed how their levels affect everything from our personalities down to the skin of our vaginas!!!

Okay, I have been waiting for someone other than me to have this problem for a long time. I am almost 42, and I have had this problem since I have been married, 22 years now. I have had biopsy done, STD testing, etc., and the creams the doctors have given me over the years have never helped. I went to an OB/GYN this past year, and he said it was a skin breakdown, to use A&D ointment daily and that should toughen it up. I have had a hard time believing it could have been that easy and I am just finding this out now. I have for many years avoided having sex due to the discomfort and pain this causes during intercourse. Since some of you have heard the same thing about the A&D ointment, I am going to give it a try. I sure hope this works! Oh, and I had an episiotomy with my last child, and that did not fix the problem, so maybe that might work for some, but not for me.
Thanks and I will try to repost after a test run of the A&D. If anyone else has had success with this or anything else, please post. Thanks a bunch!

I've been frustrated with perineum tears for a couple years also. I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one, but it stinks that there is no solution. My doctor diagnosed the pre-menaposal thinning of the skin like some others said and gave me a prescription for a hormonal cream. I still get them, but I can't say that I used the cream religiously. I figure it's another one of those things we women have to suffer with and get no sympathy whatsoever.

My mother and I both have this. It is just thin skin and it's common.
the doctor prescibed clobetasol propionate .05% cream, also estrogen cream if you want to go all natural. These will help thicken the skin.
