I've had this issue since I gave birth to my daughter in 2009. I've seen a few different doctors and been told it'll go away, or that the only reason it's still there is because I irritate it myself. I thought it came about when I pushed her out! Ha! I've always used "free and clear" laundry detergent, had the same body wash for, gosh, at least 10 years (Caress), no panty liners, no dryer sheets - everything everyone's told me could be the root cause. I have no allergies and have never had any kind of skin issues.
But I FINALLY went to the right doctor!!! She told me it was an allergy and to go about my day and jot down EVERYTHING that touches down there. Wash everything in FREE & CLEAR detergent. Pay attention ... I thought "no way - I don't have any allergies." But apparently I do! There was nothing else that was touching me down there on a regular basis, so I went ahead and switched my body wash to a pure glycerin soap for a week - and voila!! I'm so serious ... it's totally gone. I really can't believe it. No more itchiness. No more pain when I pee. No more pain when I wipe or touch down there. It was my soap all this time. For some reason, that small patch of skin down there formed an allergy to something in my body wash, and it took me this long to figure out the cause... Hope this helps some of you!

Hi girls.
I've had a lot of trouble with this issue myself and this was the best article I'd ever found. I think the suggestion of keeping the area clear, dry and not using anything stronger than baking powder, with no creams or sprays inside the labia majora, was the most helpful. Best of luck! http://www.health.harvard.edu/newsletters/Harvard_Womens_Health_Watch/2008/November/Managing_common_vulvar_skin_conditions

Unfortunately, because that area never really stays dry, I think that's what stops the tear from healing. It sounds uncomfortable, but I've been putting a cotton ball on it to pull the moisture away and keep it dry. So far so good (been about 12 hours).
As far as why they're their, I think mine is from sex without adequate lubrication as my fiancé is uhm.... bigger than average. lol. Try using lubrication before sex and making sure your "taint" is covered as well. : ) hope this helps

This is very common and probably due to friction on the site. The skin between the vagina and anus is very thin and easily damaged.
If there's no lumps, severe redness or puss, thick white/green discharge from the vagina or any other odd looking white or purple skin you're just experiencing the joy of being female and having an anatomy that's prone to this happening.
Keep the site clean and rinse with saline solution (you can buy saline in small containers from a chemist) then apply something like vaseline to soothe and protect the skin from urine stinging. If it looks at all infected see a doctor for antibiotics or antibiotic cream. It sucks but it's just part of life, unfortunately. And if you have this a lot when you're younger it tends to stay like this all your life.

Although I haven't found a solution to the tears that we continuously get, I have found a way to HEAL these cuts and tears. Depending on how bad your wound is, this mixture allow you to heal within a matter of DAYS (in my case, usually two days) and it's only two ingredients. The two ingredients are Vitamin E and coconut oil.
My husband and I continuously deal with this issue. As if it isn't bad enough to have the problem to begin with, the healing process down there makes it even harder to handle, emotionally and physically. We used multiple things to try to help me heal faster and no matter what we tried it took me a long time to heal. We like to use the healthy option any chance we get; we started with coconut oil and while it did soothe the irritation and improve healing, we still kept looking. One day I came across the thought of using Vitamin E and decided to do more research on it. After reading all of it's benefits, we decided to try it on my tears. After one night of application, my tear had healed over halfway and any little cuts I had were gone. After applying it again for a second time, the tear had healed.
There's all kinds of ways to explain why vitamin e is good for you and there's all kinds of research you can do if you want the scientific reasoning... Long story short, the chemical structure of Vitamin E is similar to the structure of our cells' membranes. Therefore, Vitamin E can enter the cells and start to do it's amazing work quicker and more efficiently. Since the skin where us women get our sores is a membrane, the vitamin e boosts the healing process.
I have also read that we can continuously rip due to the scar tissue built after ripping. It seems to turn into a cycle. Vitamin E has been known to help with scars and healing skin. I can't promise anything and won't know for sure until later down the road, but my hope is that after continuously applying Vitamin E to the area of my tear that it will help the problem of the scar tissue.
I suggest using the purest form of Vitamin E you can find. Make sure to read the ingredients. A lot of Vitamin E have other oils and such added to it. I am currently using the capsules and breaking them open to mix with the coconut oil, but I will be buying the bottled Vitamin E oil next. (It get's old squeezing capsule after capsule) Either packaged form works. Also, make sure you use virgin coconut oil that is not processed. The best rule of thumb, if it has no smell or taste then it has no nutrients. Clean the area thoroughly and apply the mixture on your wound. I have learned that this process works the fastest over night while wearing cotton clothing.
I'm sorry I can't give the solution to prevent tearing but I hope this information helps!!!!

I have just returned from a visit to my gyno. I have been experiencing irritaion for the past couple of years in an ongoing way. At first I thought I had hemorroids as I could feel a little lump which was very sensitive. Applications of aloe vera and witchhazel ointment helped the most. Lately I began to doubt my initial diagnosis. I found that often using toilet paper would irritate, so I installed a Japanese spraying toilet. That helped a lot, but sometimes the area would sting for no apparent reason. I began to think the problem lay with the perinium. I had been doing some pretty advanced Pilates movements and yoga at times, in addition to which two of my physio/ massage therapists had specifically done work on my perinium in order to free up my core as I was getting a lot of muscular imbalances down my legs and my hips were very tight.
The specialist today confirmed two small areas on the perinium which looked as though they were the cause of my problems. He said it was from a lack of oestrogen and has given me Ovestin cream 0.1% to try and thicken the skin. I'm to apply this once a night, decreasing to twice a week, for the next 6 weeks. I am sure he is correct, he is never wrong in his diagnoses. Only then will he prescribe steroids, which I certainly would not want to take anyway.
I am nearly 65, so this diagnosis is not suprising, but a lack of oestrogen canhappen at any age, so I hope this info helps other women.

Sorry to hear that. Actually after nearly 2 weeks of using a little cream once a day my perineal skin has much improved. As it happens I saw a similar problem on "Embarrasing Bodies" this week in which a young mother with post partum vaginal tears 18 months after childbirth was prescribed eostrogen cream and it worked for her.
I dont know anything about teenage acne, but I guess it is also a sign that your hormones are out of whack. In your case I would ask for a hormone test to make sure that you were getting the correct kind of hormone.

Just looked up Tetracycline. It is a powerful antibiotic. You must have had a pretty bad infection from your acne. I cant see the relationship between that and tears. Too much antibiotic can cause fungal infections because it kills off the good bacteria in your gut, as well as the bacteria its aimed at, often resulting in yeast infections in the bladder area. You should always take plenty of Probiotic tablets to restore the bacterial balance. Its not an allergy, its a common reaction to the drug. Better ask your doctor's opinion.
