In my experience with tears in vaginal/anal areas, one problem is excessive moisture left in these areas, either after sex(it is best to clean juices off asap) or working out on the job or excercising, whatever causes moisture to accumulate. It keeps skin wet, tender,& softer than usual. If you are a full figured ,not necessarily overweight person, male(anally) or female, these tears are more likely to occur. Gentle soaps, water, along with a plain antiseptic liquid on your washcloth will aid the healing process. A thin layer of name brand pure petroleum jelly,or hemoroid ointment after cleaning your affected area is very soothing!

Oh my goodness Tanya! I had to do some searching online about this issue because I'd never knew any one else with this problem. I have tearing of various levels at different times in my life. Often occuring during extremely stressful times in my life, excessive sitting in my daily routine, over exsertion due to exercise, etc. It seems that anything outside of the norm to my day to day exudes these tears. As sorry as I am to hear others going through this, I am happy to hear I am not alone. Now I have ever been tested for Herpes, but I have had physicians down there and have been tested for other STDS, negative. I understand this condition is fairly common and really results in those may have wide range hormal imbalances, fair skin, lower level working imune systems...etc. My mom has something similar happen to her. I have been dealing with the itching and discomfort and tearing around my perineal/anal region since I was around 18-19 years old. After reading all of your remedies I'm hopeful to find something for me that works! Thank you again for all of your words, I can sleep better knowing I'm not going through this alone :)

This still happens to me every now and then. I think it might be yeast-related (although otherwise I don't have yeast infection symptoms). I do find that this sometimes tends to flare up if I'm eating a lot of sugar. I'd see about laying off the tetracycline; since it's an antibiotic it might be killing bacteria and setting the delicate chemical balance off just enough to keep the skin sensitive. I think I'm very sensitive anyway in that area; saltwater soaks disinfect and are very soothing but won't kill off bad bacteria: put some (iodine-free) salt in warm/hot water (just enough salt to taste like tears, not too much!), and dip a washcloth in the solution. test it on the delicate side of your wrist (palm up) and make sure it doesn't feel too hot. put it across the sensitive area - if it feels too hot just wait long enough for it to cool a bit..you do NOT want to burn this skin!! - and let that sit for a while until it cools down..do that a couple times if you're not in a rush. after, rinse it well with regular (not salt-)water so get the excess salt off so it doesn't dry out the area. then make sure you dry off with a dry cloth.

this will sooth and clean the area. as i said, laying off sugar might help a lot; it does for me, i think. the issue might be hormonal, especially since you said it happens about once a month. good luck!!

anyone who is experiencing symptoms of pain and tearing of the perineum and other genital skin should really consider a condition called vestibulitis, or vestibulodynia. it is a skin conditions where the glands of the skin are not functioning properly to produce the normal moisturizing oils that keep the skin hydrated. there is very little known as to what causes it and treatment therefore can be tricky. a gyno will be able to help you. i have had this for three years and was being tested for stds over and over, progressively getting worse and dealing with daily pain. not many doctors know much about this condition, you need to bring this up.

Nice to know I'm not alone. My problem sounds like several of these. When my husband and I first met he unknowingly gave me herpes. And it did start out looking exactly like a tiny little tear on my perineum right at the vaginal entrance. It wouldn't heal and that's when I found out that it was herpes. No big deal really since 1 in 4 people have it and don't know it. But since then, 10 years later, I tear every time we have intercourse. So let's say our sex life has been almost non-existent. It's depressing and frustrating, not to mention very uncomfortable. And none of my doctors have seemed to have a solution for me. I wouldn't blame him if he went elsewhere, although he feels terrible that it's his fault. I know damn well I'm not having a break out every time we are intimate, although it feels about the same. I might have a breakout every 2 years. So if anyone has a solution I will bow down to you. I've missed out on what is supposed to the best sex years of my life. If we have tons of foreplay, and I mean tons, then I usually won't tear. but there goes any spontaneity. I'm seriously so depressed about this.

I have managed to get rid of the tears and itching around my vagina area!
- only wear 100% cotton pants
- only wear 100% cotton trousers/ skirts
- pure coconut oil lubricates the vaginal area and reduces itching and thrush
- do not wear any clothing below your waist that contains elastin or lycra -I have found these cause all the 'cuts'
- pants for children that are 100% cotton are usually 100% cotton a lot of ladies knickers say 100% cotton but they are not.

I get them on and off. I have no idea why it happens... (that's why I'm reading this) but I've found that putting Neosporin helps tremendously! It makes the pain disappear and lubricates the irritated skin. It kills bacteria and heals the skin. I just apply it to the tears/cuts. {externally} So good luck finding out because I'm sure most doctors have no freakin clue... I've pretty much lost all faith in them. =] but this helps me, so I thought I'd share this with you all! best wishes ladies.

All of this sounds like JOCK ITCH.  If you haven't tried a jock itch cream you should.  Years of agony will be remedied!

Check that you are not using any products in the area that contain methylisothialozonine--it's a preservative found in many products, which is a toxin. I was using feminine wash and wipes (like Cottonelle), and it turned out that those products were making matters worse.

I'm so happy I found this discussion/website.  I thought I had anal fissures or hemorrhoids but they weren't near the anus plus I never had any bloody stool problems.  I've had them for the past few years and every year they get worse especially right before my period.  I would ask my doctor about them every year during my physical but she mostly ignores me and just tells me to use Vagisil or something like that.  Thank you all for sharing and learning that I'm not the only one who has this problem.

I started noticing my tears a few weeks ago. Recently when my boyfriend and I have sex, it will hurt for at least an hour afterwards, and I've told him it feels like I'm being torn open. I have been pretty dry during sex lately. I have a vertical tear right above my clitoris that is at least an inch long, tears along the side of my vulva and tears on my perineum. It also feels like there are some around my rectum. All of these sometimes bleed. I thought it was a yeast infection, but monistat cream stung horribly and irritated the tears. I also felt nauseous after using the monistat cream and stopped using it after one day. I wasn't diagnosed with a yeast infection, so I feel ridiculously stupid for trying to treat one, but I've taken 4 rounds of anti biotics in the last 6 months for various problems and I thought for sure that had given me a yeast infection. Could the nausea just be from using a treatment which was trying to cure a problem I don't have? Or could this be an indicator of a serious problem?

I've also tried neosporin on the area, which I don't think really offers relief. I try to keep the area clean and just bought a bunch of pairs of cotton boy short underwear to keep the area dry and away from any nasty fabric.

So, why wont these things heal? Everything I've tried (giving my lower regions air, letting them air dry after gently washing them, the neosporin, the monistat, the anti-biotics) has seemed to make matters not even close to better. I'm as itchy as the day I first noticed this, using the bathroom hurts, everything seems to make the area sting, I can't even think of having sex, and the only relief I ever find is scratching, which momentarily feels amazing but I know just make the problem worse.

I am over weight, I've wondered if this could be connected to the problem. In the past 6 months I've been to see doctors more than the times I've ever been to them in the rest of my life for various reasons.

Assuming these tears are just from dry sex, how can we help them to heal? Does anyone know if I have any indicators of having a serious problem? I have an appointment for my annual exam and I guess I'm going to ask about these issues but as far as I can tell no one has gotten any help from doctors. I'm wary of using any more creams down there in case they're just making things worse.

Let the area breathe or cover it up with A&D? I suppose a lot of us actually have different problems or at least different causes of these tears but there's got to be a way to help them all heal, this is agony!!
