Hi

I have had problems with the bottom of my feet for about the last Ten years. I decided to join a gym and thats when the problems really started. However, after trying Injections etc, I have now been officially diagnosed with Mortons Neuroma in both feet. I am at the stage now where I cannot walk for more than about 15 minutes before I feel like I am going to be sick.

I am now booked in to have surgery on my right foot in June and then my left foot to follow. I would appreciate some advice on aftercare.  I am not feeling very confident about the operation because after reading these comments listed on here mostly it seems negative which is a worry.

First thing you had way to many cortisone shots. The cortisone shots are most liekly contributing to your problem now as you have most likely cortisone precipitate in your foot.

I had my Morton's Neuroma surgery in November and it went very well.  In fact, the area where the neuroma was has never felt better.  On the other hand, it kinda created a new problem: Now between the 4th & 5th toes it feels like I am walking on a bubble that can be painful, not as painful as the neuroma, but still uncomfortable.  My dr seems to think it is the nerve next to the one that was operated on, that it is still a little "angry" and hopefully will "calm down soon".  I'm certainly glad I did not have any of the complications that I have read here.  I was back at work a week later and walking very good.  I did have a bit of an infection, but dr game me a strong antibiotic and it was gone in a few days.  Good luck to you all hope you find some sort of relief.

i had the same mortons neuroma surgery between my 3rd and forth toes on my r foot and i will permanantly have no feeling on the inside of my toes and i was told it will take easily 14 weeks to heal and i have to wear a special half boot to walk and have physio, it has been almost a month and i am still in pain and still have brusing, i am more worried about circulation problems than anything my foot is always cold and now the weather is getting colder and i still can not wear a sock, i have barely any movement in my toes at all and im trying to make sure i look after my feet but the surgery seems to of caused problems with movement in all my toes and the top of my foot feels funny to touch.

I'm 22 years old and I'm on my third neuroma surgery!! Had the first one done at 14 then a corrective surgery by a different Dr two years later. I have suffered a lot of pain from these surgeries. Injections , cramps swollen feet. One month ago I had my third and so far I have seen a great improvement in my pain. But these last three days I feel like a bubble on the bottom of where I had my surgery.

Hi sounds familiar I had surgery in February I walked out if hospital no problems once I was back at work four weeks later the pain started. I also feel like I'm walking on marbles. I have cramp, numb toes. The pain is worse than ever. I could hardly walk today it was so bad, I've gained weight as I can't walk far. I wouldn't wish this on anyone. Is this it for the rest of my life.

Sorry to say that my story echoes yours. From the belief that it was a very minor procedure to 4 week recovery, Currently at week 14 and the sensitivity and swelling has not gone away. Very disappointed as it was the alternative to the pain experienced leading an active life. When I couldn't run anymore (I'm not a marathoner but active runner, biker, skier, hiker etc - fighting age).
Curious to learn what others are or have experienced and how long it took them to feel back to normal. Wondering if I need a second surgery, but then am afraid of the whole damn thing getting worse. Faithfully worked at the area shortly after surgery to avoid buildup of scar tissue, rolled wooden cylinder and golf ball under pad, used my fingers....all for not. My advice to anyone out there would be to try acupuncture or some form of holistic remedy. If you had the pain i did, you just want this over...but I must warn that it's not a 100% effective. What's the recourse from the physicians? We're all different, have different makeups in physiology etc and heal differently. Not wanting to pursue legal action as other suggested, I just want this rectified. Oh, and my podiatrist is no longer at the practice...wonder why? Just 3 months ago. DIssappointed would put my current state mild.

Thank you for some positive news. I have been having pain in the ball of my feet for more than four years. The first doctor who checked my feet said there was nothing wrong....no corns, calluses, dry/cracking. He acted surprised that my feet were very smooth. I wanted to tell him to go ahead and kiss them if he's like but, there was definitely something wrong with them. I went to another Orthopedic Surgeon, and was given steroid injections - temporary relief. Went back to him in six weeks, and had injections again. Came to the Middle East and diagnosed with Metatarsalgia.....given injections again. Was even misdiagnosed with heel spur. This is when I started seriously doing my research. I determined from my symptoms and the information given on the internet, that I have Morton's Neuromas. I went to a fourth doctor in the Middle East, who squeezed my foot in his hand, heard and felt the classic "click", and immediately diagnosed my problem as Morton's Neuroma. I have received at least two more rounds of steroid injections since then. Now, the pain is unbearable. I had x-rays done to rule out other problems. Then I had MRIs done. Just as my doctor and I suspected - Morton's Neuromas. The surgery is schedule for early 2014 - Dorsal approach. I asked to have both local and general anesthesia....do not wish to wake up in pain. The doctor said I will be able to put weight on my feet immediately after the surgery - having both done at same time. I expect there will be some swelling and permanent numbness. I have numbness now, along with the unbearable pain. So, if there is numbness without pain, that would be an improvement.

I have found shoes that are very pretty, and have afforded me a great amount of relief. They are Kalso Earth Shoes. These shoes have "negative" heels, which take the pressure off the balls of your feet.....like walking in sand on the beach. Since my weight has shifted from the balls of my feet to my heels, I decided to place gel cushions under my heels. I love these shoes...wish I have found them before now.

I had my surgery on Dec 12th...My initial problem was the top pad part of my third toe of my right foot would "zing" or "move" whenever I would step up or down...Had 2 cortizone shots, and said F**k it, let's do the surgery~...Well...it's March, and it's like I never had the surgery! My doctor is one of the best, but I am soooooo frustrated!!!! I can't be on it more than a few hours at a time....He had me trying Cymbalta, cause it's been know to help w/nerve pain....not with me...lol. He also gave me a toe cushion thing, to see if that would help...it does for a bit, but after a few hours, the pain is horrible! I already have orthotic shoes, and am about beside myself...it's to the point where I want him to just take off my toe, it's that painful!!!! He is trying to help, but I think even he is wondering what the hell else to try....I seriously feel for you....I'm sorry I couldn't give you any good news, but I'm desperate myself, and am kind of relieved to see I'm not alone in this!!!  Good luck to you...:)
