I had neuroma surgery on my left foot a bit over 10 years ago. I'd been through more than 1/2 dozen DPMs  before arriving at the one who got the diagnosis right. I figured he had it right and it turned out to be so (post surgery). He's located 60 miles from me, so seeing him and eventually having the surgery was quite an inconvenience, but it was better seeing someone who really knew what they were doing than dealing with the I'm tempted to say clowns, but let's just say not one of them realized that I had two neuromas in the same foot, which I've been told by everyone with an educated opinion, is rare or "very rare." Spaces 2 and 3. My DPM who did the surgery figured that's what he'd find, indeed that's what he found and he cut out both, cutting the nerve back and tucking the end of the remaining nerve into the muscle.

The foot is far better than it was. I think you have to call the operation a big success. My right foot is fine as far as I can tell, I've never had symptoms of neuroma in it, however I've suffered plantar faciitis in it for a couple of years, off an on, mostly not bad now. Maybe a little in the left foot too, the one on which I had surgery.

Now, having one good foot is a good thing because I can compare that to the foot that had the surgery. The left foot does not feel as good as the right. There's still some sense of neuralgia, but it's liveable. When it's cold, it hurts more. Most of the time I don't experience what you'd call pain, or if I do, I ignore it. I do like to take my shoes off a lot of the time if I don't need to have them on. Even my socks.

Well, I'm turning 73 in August, I used to be a recreational runner, have always been active. Hope to play golf a couple of times a week beginning in a few weeks through the warm season, and I do walk the rather hilly course.

I'm fighting the plantar faciitis, but think with proper stretching and orthotics I should be OK.

Now 10 years since my neuroma surgery I can say that I do what I need to do, I never quit my activities because of pain in that foot. Reading my notes last night from around 10 years ago I realize how much of a problem it was. I read that stuff because I'm going to see the doctor for one last time today (taking that 60 mile drive), because I want him to measure me for new orthotics. He's going to retire in a couple of months, so it's now or never to see this guy, who is my most trusted foot guy.
