Anybody here who has this mucous problem tries singulair? I have been trying this singulair for 3 days now and it helps significantly... I would know the long term result in a month...

I too have this problem and I make my living with my voice. One thing that helps is gargling with a small amount of Hydrogen Peroxide and then gargling with any mouthwash. The peroxide is suppose to break up the mucus. I think it does work but you have to repeat the process when more mucus drains down again.

I’ve been reading the many posts about chronic mucus in the throat. I’ve been there – done that for many years. I’ve seen 4 different doctors without any positive results and tried MANY - MANY Rx’s. I’ve been tested for allergies, asthma and GERD and I’m not a smoker. I not knocking the medical community but they seem to have tunnel vision when it comes to this condition. With the help of some on-line postings and some research, I’ve come upon some promising results.
Antibiotics seem to be a common denominator. When a doctor prescribes an antibiotic it kills all the bacteria [good and bad] in your system – this is good when you are ill since it eliminates what was making you ill. However the elimination of the good bacteria has consequences. [Please note that I’m not a medical professional so my descriptions/explanations may not be stated well but this is what I’ve pieced together with some research] There is a relationship in the body between mucus and good bacteria. If the good bacteria are not adequate, the body produces mucus as protection.
With my condition, I separated it to a mucus problem and a post-nasal drip problem. First the mucus - Probiotics are designed to replace the good bacteria. They are not new and have been around for a long time and there is a lot of information available on them – doing your own research is recommended. In my case, I’ve been prescribed antibiotics many times over the years but never replaced the good bacteria. So I started with a low dose of Probiotic and worked up. [I currently take 3 capsules 2X daily] This has reduced the mucus in my throat a lot – maybe 80% or more. [I’m reluctant to say that I’m cured]
Next the post-nasal drip. This is still a work in progress. Over-the-counter decongestants aren’t a solution for me – Sudafed-like compounds mess with my blood pressure but I still use Flonase. So thanks to another on-line posting, I’m trying Quercetin which you can find in the health food/vitamin store. So far, so good! It seems to be working.
I hope this information works. Good luck.

I noticed a build up of mucus and phlem in my throat after I consume a good deal of dairy, ie a bowl of ice cream or a full glass of milk. Another option may be that you have a food intollerance, for wheat. I would try to tackle it from a diet prospective since meds didn't help.

I have the same problem, after reading most of your comments about going to the dr.'s and all they seem to do is prescribe pills that only fix the situation temporarily, ... 'if your lucky enough to even get a prescription of course', if not the dr. has no clue so my guess is that its our diet... clearly something we've been eating for many years has caused it to build up mucus, .. so i plan to change up my diet until i find out what food had been doing it..... Because i too have gone to the doc's and they have stated theres nothing wrong.

I think you should do Anulom vilom ( search on youtube there are several videos by indian yoga masters) its part of yoga in which you breath in from one nostril ( press the other nostril with fingers) and release breath from other nostril and than take breath from the first nostril and release from other do it for 10- 15 minutes. I had the clear mucus problem for several days. I did Anulom Vilom yoga for few days for 15 minutes, I don;t have the problem any more. If you have same problem like me you should probably get relief. Good luck

I have had this same annoying thing for what seems like forever. All this clearing of my throat is driving my wife and friends nuts. I am going to talk with my doctor soon. If I hear anything that might be helpful, I will let you know. My mother had it most of her adult life. She took Prednisone for a long time, but it never seemed to help. I wake up at night with it and am now clearing my throat about every 15 to 30 seconds. It is awful. Ron

Hi everyone,
I'm very discouraged by reading all these entries. I have had this issue for 10 years. No matter how much I clear and try to swallow whatever it is down.. its still there like it was never touched or moved anywhere. Laying down makes it worse, and falling asleep is a miserable chore. I have seen a specialist as well, and they cant find anything and say its my post nasal drip issue, but i know its something totally different. One docter snapped at me and told me it was my anxiety... so pretty much she was saying it was just imagined. All I can offer is this: when I raw fooded for a couple months the problem was greatly alleviated. I'm assuming it is some sort of irritation from foods/drinks consumed. Try eating as natural and as raw as possible. Not only did I see improvements with this, but miracle-like improvements in about 12 other areas as well. Nutrition heals!

Hello, I too suffer from this constant throat clearing. It's maddening, and worse in the winter months here in the Nevada desert. It keeps me up at night so I am exhausted all the time. I become very anxious from this problem. It's very uncomfortable to feel like there is something constantly stuck in your throat. I've been the round with the doctors and they just look at you like your psycho and tell you there is nothing wrong and throw a spray or pill at you. I've read a lot of posts here where many have been told it's mental. I must admit when I can distract myself it helps to alleviate the need to clear my throat but it seems this is only because I am taking my mind off of it. Recently, for about 2 months, I tried the raw food diet, juicing with broccoli, kale, carrots and an apple each morning. For my other meals I tried to avoid any non-organic ingredients, chemicals, msg, high fructose corn syrup or artificial sweeteners. Amazingly enough, this helped incredibly. I read the ingredients label on a product and if it's generally more than seven ingredients, especially chemical sounding stuff I can't usually pronounce I put it back on the shelf. I'm becoming a firm believer in the body healing itself if you give it the proper nutrients that are pure and healthy. The only draw back is that the organic food will double your food bill each month, easily. I felt the pain from that and started eating the type of food I was eating before. Within one week I was sick and my throat clearing problem returned. I am going 100% back to healthy. If I have to get rid of my new car and drive and old one to afford it then it will be more than worth it. Good luck to all.

Yes... about a year ago I started having severe issues with panic attacks. I kept telling my doctor that they were partly triggered by the sensation that I couldn't breathe well. She insisted it was the other way around and wanted me to take meds for anxiety instead of listening to me. If you're willing to make major lifestyle changes for your health, maybe consider moving to Hawaii. I witnessed the healthiest homeless people in the world living there, all because they live off the wild edibles that grow abundantly there.. and year-round, which is important. I'm headed that way soon myself. Actually I went into debt trying to rawfood. Its very difficult unless you can supplement in some way. Not only is it expensive, but you get home only to find that half of it is too rotten to eat anymore. Having fresh foods growing nearby is always a plus.. and I know first hand that its the answer to many of our daily health issues. Furthermore, if we all buy organic produce, the prices will eventually become affordable.
