My 7 year old daughter has suffered from vomiting and wieghtloss since she was 6 months old. She gets short breaks once in a while from the vomiting but then it goes back to her being sick several times a day every day. Sometimes the episodes last for up to 3 weeks and others only a day or two. She is very petite and has a difficult time gaining weight and when she does she tends to lose most or all of it again. She is 7 years old 4 feet tall and finally just reached 48 pounds. I understand that's not a significant amount below normal however, it never stays on her for very long . I think she has only put on this weight due to medications she is currently on for AH/DH,ODD and Anxiety. I have taken her to doctors, specialists and to the ER to try and find out what is causing the problems but as of yet nothing has been found. She is currently being treated for acid reflux all though when tested she showed no signs of having acid reflux disease . It was simply a hope of her doctor that the prevacid minitabs would help relieve her of the vomiting. It seemed to help for a short while but again now for the last 3 weeks she has been throwing up nearly every day several times a day. It is projectile and she has no other symptoms at the moment though in the past she has had very slight fevers with it. I am at a loss as to what could be wrong. One doctor even went so far as to say she was causing herself to get sick but my question then would have to be . Since she has been sick since she was 6 months old how could she have made herself sick at that age and why continue to do so now when she feels completely miserable. I just need some sort of solid answer so that I can get my daughter treated for whatever is wrong so she can have a normal or at least semi normal childhood . As of this point in her life she has not really has that. She has always felt miserable and she always looks sick and rather fragile with large dark smudges under her eyes. It is tearing me apart seeing her like this. She goes through times of being afraid to eat or drink anything for fear that she will get sick again and I am afraid of what that will do to her body not to mention the long term eating disorders it could cause for her in the future. I don't feel as if the doctors where we live are taking her problems very seriously and it is very frustrating. I think if you can give me a solid lead or idea to bring to her doctor then maybe I can get someone to really listen and do something. I am sorry this is so long I guess I have a lot of fear and doubt concerning whats happening to her and how we are being treated by doctors. I have at this point nearly lost my daughter 3 times in her very short life one of those times was during a test to see what is wrong with her. Please if you have any solid ideas, suggestions on this I really need them I need your help so that I can get her the medical help she needs and stop feeling like a failure as a mother and feeling as if I am putting her in more danger with all the tests she has endured since I am the one who has insisted on the tests until the doctors finally do them.
Try searching information on seizures. Sometimes seizures will cause a lot of coughing, hacking, and vomiting. There was a tv episode on TLC about one case in particular a few weeks ago.
Have you ever looked into something called Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome? It is something we are looking at regarding our 6 year old daughter who recently started to have vomiting episodes which have occurred on the same day for the last 3 months and basically follow the same duration. I am still researching it but it may be something to mention to the doctors. I understand your heartache. I hope you can find some answers.
I have been having the same problem with my teenage daughter. They tested her and nothing it has been going on for a year. I even started to blame her and thought she was bulimic . I started her on Probiotic pills I figure I try them as well. In the last 2 weeks her vomiting has significantly diminished. As a matter of fact she almost has not vomited for a week. My daughter has lost a drastic amount of weight and her hair started falling out. My heart goes out to you and I pray that you will find a solution.
