My mom is a 40 year old women and she is severely ill. She has been throwing up for the past week everyday several times a day. She does not have a fever but she has been in her bed for the past week. She cannot keep anything down, not even water. She is very weak and can bearly walk more than a few feet. This is not the first time that this has happened; it has happened 4 times in the past 2 years and it gets really bad. We take her to the ER every time and they can never figure out what the problem is, they will give her fluids and then she will get somewhat better and then they will send her home. When she gets home then she goes right back to being sick. I feel so bad for her because I know she is old and she only weights 95lbs. and she looses about 10lbs every time this happens. She no longer has insurance so I'm not sure what to do this time. :'( Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Kyle
It appears that your mom may have some kind of chronic disease such as kidney failure, colon or ovarian cancer. The ER is not the best place to get treatment for chronic conditions. The ER mainly deals with acute conditions and catastrophic trauma. It is not that the ER doctors could not figure out what was wrong with your mom, they just did not take the time to run the necessary tests to find out. Lack of health insurance may have been the main reason behind this. Such is the sorry state of affair in the American health care system.
Go to a drug store and buy your mom some over the counter anti-nausea medications. Have your mom take the medication when she is not throwing up. Offer your mom more fluid when the vomiting has subsided somewhat. Try to get her to eat semi-solid foods even when she does not feel like eating. Contact your local social services agency for assistance. Take her to the ER repeatedly if necessary. Please keep in touch. We are here for you.

I have the same issue with my mom. They can't figure out what's wrong with her, but she does have Medi-Cal. I would suggest you research free clinics for ob-gyn and get her checked there first. The hospital does not take the time to look closely in to what your mom might have. You should do it on your own. Good luck with mama and keep pushing!

Hi Kyle,

Did your mom ever find a cure? My mom is currently going through the same exact thing. We are on vacation right now and I'm afraid she might not be well enough to fly back home.
