You have no idea how much your experience and story of your son has given me hope for mine. I was honestly terrified to look all of this up because I figured most of it would be mean people judging recovering addicts or talking about how the child is horrible. Thank you so much for sharing!! Keep it up, your amazing.

I have a 9 year-old daughter, who came to me through the foster care system, who was born addicted to methadone. Worse, according to accounts that I received, she was released from the hospital early and did not receive all of the necessary supports to deal with withdrawals. She is a wonderful little girl. She is sweet and kind, makes A's and B's in school, is respectful and just all around a great kid.

That is not always the case. Not every child born addicted to methadone needs to go to the NICU. My son who is 9 months old did not go to the NICU. We were only in the hospital for 4 days and he came home with me. It just depends on how quickly the baby metabolizes the methadone.

My pediatrician told me that they can become addicted very easy, so talk to them a lot about the dangers of them trying alcohol or any type of drugs when they are older.

I adopted 3 boys who were all born addicted to Methadone. The oldest one was in ICU for 7 weeks detoxing and the younger were in ICU for just over 2 weeks. I have been looking for some sort of support group for years! It's very challenging to raise them, patience is a must! If anyone knows of any, PLEASE email me!

I'm so worried about April Nicole my daughter. 23 and in Prison. She's on Methadone and I will have to take custody of her son as soon as his precious soul arrives. I don't know what is in store. I'm so proud of my daughter April for getting off Heroin 11/2 years ago. I'm a very supportive mother. I don't condemn her. Those who have I consider them toxic and cut them out of my life. People hate what they don't understand. Where do I turn for help? Thank you

My daughter was on methadone when she had my grand daughter. Her eyes seem to cross at times. Went to doctor and she is going to need glasses. She did not walk until 18 months, however, she is very smart and she is talking a lot now. She turned 2 in January.

I've had 4 children on methadone and not 1 had any kind of complications. They are now 18, 17, 15 and 12. They're doing well in school and at home.

Love your reply!! I was only on 10 mg methadone when I fell pregnant. I thought I could quit taking. (Lack of knowledge) my doctor informed me that wasn't an option so I continued taking 10 mg. When she was born I couldn't put her down the ENTIRE time. She is one years old and is very hyper and still doesn't sleep will BUT EXTREMELY INTELLIGENT! I'm so happy to read your reply and see you feel the same way I do

Not every person on methadone is in recovery it is also used to treat chronic pain I broke my back after years of different types of opiates this one works best for my pain management.
