Of course you're both correct about fibre being a perfectly legitimate spelling. Also, she DID mention blood in her stool. I didn't appreciate the "ignorant American" remark though.

So if i say dont an foolish person, then does that mean every person's a fool?It is to humourous to think that if one says ignorant American then she/he means every american is ignorant.
P.S. He was ignorant to say FIBER is misspelled. Its Fiber is used more in world including in most commonwealth nations inc. India etc

I wouldn't worry too much about a brit calling out "ignorant Americans". You are taking to heart the words of someone from a country that attempted to invade the US and got their tea holes handed to them. Ironically, in current society they yelp about America being a nation of conquering power hungry tyrants when the US has not once attempted an invasion of another country for the purposes of conquer (as they have). Add to the ridiculous exchange the irony... the person who originally balked at the spelling was in fact assuming he was calling out an American who was too ignorant to spell fiber correctly. It's all too rich. I sincerely doubt any of this has alleviated the suffering or worry of people with GASTRIC issues.

I don't know if this is helpful to anyone seeking answers, but I've been dealing with somewhat similar problems just over a week & after doing some research I've learned a little more about internal bleeding & colon bleeding. Bleeding in the stomach causes black stool & black/tar-like stool, whereas bleeding in the colon can show up as red blood. One thing that caught my interest & may explain my own personal problem (I hope) is that certain meds, such as PEPTO can also cause black stool. I have thought from the start that my personal experience is due to something I ate & in the first couple days I suffered from diarrhea as well as extreme nausea. The diarrhea went away, but the nausea has persisted (it's been 8 days now, total). Anyway, the first few days I was sick, I downed Pepto, which may explain the very noticeable stool color a day or two later... Of course, this is only one possibility. Black stool is a sign of internal bleeding & such bleeding can be serious business, so I would definitely recommend a doctor if it's going on for any period of time. Mine has seemed to begin clearing up as I haven't taken anywhere near the amount of Pepto that I WAS taking, but the nausea hasn't stopped. Although, I do feel much better than I did the first few days, I am still very sick. If this persist, I'm afraid I may have to go in to see a doctor. I felt a little better knowing that all the Pepto I was drinking may have been the cause of what I thought was internal bleeding...

I meant to add that along with the nausea, I am experiencing heart burn & bloating, just like a lot of people are describing. I think it could have been some tuna I ate though, but I can't be sure. I haven't done much research in food poisoning yet as the whole list of symptoms, including black stool, got me worried that it was something totally different, which it STILL may be, but I wanted to share the Pepto thing -seeing as heartburn, nausea, & diarrhea are the exact things you WOULD take Pepto for, & if your like me, the worse you feel, the less likely you will measure & just drink it down.

Hello I have been having similar symptoms and was tested for a bacteria called helicobacter pylori, I recommend getting a test for it. It is one of the main causes of peptic ulcers. Or at least that's what the doctor's are telling me. Apparently it has been in my system long enough to weaken my stomach lining which in turn has caused my stomach acid to give me ulcers. Also I was told about two-third of the population has the bacteria which is why my doctor didn't make a big deal. It's when the ulcers pop up is when it becomes a problem.

Hello Original Poster. Because of your age the dr may not have considered a colonoscopy. Black stools cannot be diagnosed just by hearing about it. It must be investigated. You should push to get one done or go see another dr. Its the most efficient procedure to date. Otherwise time is not on your side and it could be as serious as colon cancer. Rule that out first before you assume its only IBS. :) im 34 and i have a colonoscopy due in 5 days. I had to go to my dr more than once then pushed my GI to get my colonscopy pushed closer. Drs can be ignorant sometimes. Cant rely on history because the way we live and eat now is different to what they did 100 years ago. Colonoscopy is what you need.
