The nuerosurgeon says I need to have bone taken from my hip and placed between C5, C6, C7.
The issue I have is that I have these Excruciating headaches (I do get migraines but these are not migraines...) does anyone else get these? If so what do you take to get rid of the headache? This one has been almost a week now. I can hardly work - don't want to lose my job. The worst part is that the Dr. said the surgery probably won't help the headaches?? Has anyone had the headaches and the surgery? If so did the surgery help the headaches. Not sure what to do at this point but I have to do something about the headaches too!!

Thanks
Mary
Hi there. I had C5-6 fused in December, and before (and after unfortunately) I get the same headaches. Docs have estimated that maybe 25% of all headaches are actually neck related. The tension goes up to the base of your skull, up and over, to the front of your head, right? That's a neck headache. Now, to relieve it I'm not sure, I'm going to a pain management doc today to figure everything out, but I have tried either heat or ice on my neck & anti-inflammatories like Advil for the neck headaches. Usually when you get the neck under control the headache goes away. Good luck! :-D

Oh, and one last thing. They say the bone taken from your own hip fuses faster, but my surgeon told me the difference is not great and they both fuse well. The pain in my hip was worse than the neck surgery site, and I had weird complications and could barely walk my hip was so stiff and sore. It still aches sometimes months out, and if it gets bumped at the site it hurts. If I had it to do over again there is no way they could get me to use bone from the hip, I'd do cadavar bone!!! If you ask anyone who had it done, they'll tell you the hip pain is the worst part! Just an FYI :-D
