I have come to the conclusion that it is anxiety. I have had so many tests and can relate to what everyone is saying. When I take a xanax it goes away. Sometimes is is in my jaws (holding them tight and not realizing it) sometimes in my neck (feels almost like I forget to breathe and being strangled on the sides of my neck) sometimes it is "between my ears" and sometimes behind my eyes. It sucks to have to deal with it, but it feels good to acknowledge that it is there and help myself let it pass.

Interesting. I can relate to everyone on here. I have had this problem for 1 1/2 years now and its very frustrating. I have a hard time even going out with friends and socializing like I used to because of how uncomfortable it is. I have also had people tell me that it might just be anxiety but I have never given in and tried anything like xanax. It just feels like a physical problem more. I went to an ENT that said my spine looked curved in on my neck but he thought that wasn't anything to worry about. To me that sounds like it could cause it for sure so Im probably going to get a CT Scan of that and then just try the anxiety route. Do you still have the symptoms??

I have experienced tightness in my throat for a year now. I finally had allergy testing done and found out that I am sensitive to 18 different foods including wheat, gluten dairy, egg yolk and walnuts. I started keeping a food journal of what I ate every day and the reactions that I would have to different foods. Sure enough, the foods that I am sensitive to were causing the tightness in my throat.

Hello,

I am a 39 year old male who has a similiar problem as what is mentioned on this thread. When I say similiar, let me clarify. As mentioned by a previous poster, it feels like I have a pressure on the sides of my neck, like I am wearing a turtle neck. I don't get it too often anymore, so I will mention was has changed since than, in case it is related.

Prescription Medications:

Prozac, Lotrel, Wellbutrin, Singulair

I have told my doctor that when my blood pressure goes up, I can feel it in my carotid. Well because he is an MD, he thinks I am an id**t who doesn't know what I am talking about. Caffiene exacerbates the tense feeling, along with stress. To be clear, this is not a feeling in my throat or adams apple and it is not painful, but it does worry me. It feels like someone has there hand cradled around my throat, just applying a light pressure on my carotid on both sides, with no pressure on the throat.

I suspect it is either blood pressure or stress, or high blood pressure caused by stress, or any combination of the two. Its interesting to read all of these post and I will summarize the list of diagnosis in this thread. I will research each, hopefully, am provide my feedback. Here is the list:

Hashimoto's Thyroid Disease

Schwannoma

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome

Intracranial Hypertension (this sounds promising and will likely be where I will start.) It is apparentely also called Pseudotumor Cerebri, according to previous post.

Myalgic Ecaphalamyotitis (previous post said to check out the Hummingbird Foundation.)

Morgellons

Lyme Disease

I do suffer from hypertension, as you can see since I am taking Lotrel, and I also have Cholesterol Issues, however I am not taking a statin, although I did at one point. I am working on figuring out how to resolve this without statins, by using supplements, diet, vitamins, minerals, etc.

I am researching several dietary issues related to diseases of the circulatory system. Some of those are:

Magnesium Consumption

Vitamin D

Vitamin C

Vitamin E

Calcium Elimination

Iron reduction

Co-Enzyme A

Sodium Notropresside

Phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylcholine

n-acetyl cysteine

potassium

K-ATP Channels and how to measure them

Potassium Magnesium aspartate

Hormonal Changes

As I progress through my research of what others have listed, I will add post to this post, if I can figure out how to do that. I will try to explain each disorder listed in previous posting, along with symptoms, so there is no confusion, since alot of folks just named symptoms without diagnosis or diagnosis without listed symptoms. There's alot of "I have the same problem", in this thread, however it is evident to me that there are many many different symptoms that are not like mine.

Ok, well stay tuned for further info.

God Bless

CJM

Ripstone Yes yes yes! THANK YOU! I had this a few months ago. Massive ear/ sinus infection that was better after two Z- packs but never went away entirely and have lost my sense of smell. Now it's back again. I just had a stomach virus with tonsillitis. There is no sinus pain, but some pressure in my ear. The main thing, though, is that the same exact troubling symptom is back. When I bend over head down, I get this strange, sliding sensation of pressure and pain that starts in the front of my neck and slides to my sinuses/ ears. And I just don't feel well. I know that this post was a year ago, but did you test positive for one of those bacteria?

Sounds like GERD especially if you're experiencing it after exercise. You don't have to experience heartburn for it to be reflux. If you find yourself burping a lot, have acid or bitter taste in mouth, a dry cough, or even a bit of asthma you could have atypical or "silent" GERD. That feeling of pressure in your trachea (usually close to Adams apple or even feels like it's inside it) is acid damaging the esophagus closer to the epiglottis. Try an acid reducer like pepcid, or sodium bicarbonate and water (about half teaspoon to 6 Oz of water). Drink slowly and if your throat tightness declines, it's GERD. If it dies not improve at all (not even a little) it could be something else like Thoracic outlet syndrome. Hope that helps

I too have a port that has been left in post treatment for breast cancer. When I shower bend over, or sometimes just moving around, I feel like someone is squeezing my neck. It feels like fluid or whatever is backing up into my ears and eyes because of the squeezing. It doesn't last long.

Hi Guest, I have this sensation too often, that my throat is being choked and I keep feeling to see if there is something pressing into my neck, but there isn't. I was in a car accident 3 years ago and got whiplash which is still plaguing me now. For first year or so I had a problem with swallowing too much, but last year or so I have this choking feeling. I believe it is something literally pressing from the inside, misaligned bones or swollen muscles, etc but I don't know for sure. Will try cold packs, thanks for posting
