Someone please give me some feedback on this......My daughter is 3yrs old and has to have her tonsils removed in 2 days......She has been snoring since she was a baby....she was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea....thus the reason her tonsils need to come out.. I am very scared and nervous..........is there anyone out there who has a child that got their tonsils taking out as young as my childs age? And if so...what was the recovery like?
My 4 year old son had his tonsils and adenoids out at aged 4 and 8months and he recovered reasonably well. The key for us was to keep the pain relief on course, don't wait until they are in pain, give the recommended doses all the time for at least four days, we found we had good days and not so good and timed the bedtime one so that he could have a restful night. I did wake him around 11pm to give the last dose so that he slept through the night. My son also had this done due to sleep apnea and I can say that a week on, once the swelling had gone down I saw a massive improvement in his sleeping and didn't have the trouble breathing. One tip is just focus your attention around them, giving them plenty of things to do and keep them eating and drinking whatever they want. Even sweets and chocolate and all the things you wouldn't normally give. By day three my son was tucking into chips and fish fingers. give them whatever they fancy and little and often rather than big meals. I was very nervous as you most likely are, but it certainly wasn't as bad as I thought. Good luck and if you want any more advice please let me know. We had this in February this year.
