Perspective as the son.
My father around 5x years old, he is working for a new industry that requires him to wear thick leather-ish/frabic-ish gloves.
This symptom started bit less than a year ago, when he was introduced to a new job involving machine operations and sheet metaling.
About at year ago end of 2009, he noticed that his skin, mainly on his fingers were becoming dry and thick, known as dead skin.
Bits of dead skin peels off fast in chunks, approx. 5mm diameter. He tried hand creams, vasaline, herbal medicine...etc.
Instead, the peeling gotten worst by weeks to months, spreading for fingertips downwards to the palm-ish areas.
I am not sure if there is any cycle, since I do not track my father all the time, but it is ugly, watching him touch his dry hands.
I think he mentioned that his hands absorbs dry any liquids like water fast, allowing the skin to peel quicker in a way.
Once the weather becomes dry and cold, it actually starts to crack, especially in the crease lines of the hand. Not sure if it does hurt.
He already seen several doctors, but none of them really solved this mysterious symptom. Medication were basic solutions that can be located at the chemistry/pharmacy. (not sure by name)
I am sure this is not any of the diseases mentioned earlier. Could be something new.
I am hoping if anyone that have experienced this and contain information about a cure or anything that helps. This will have my gratitude, so thanks. Hope my dad recovers soon.
