Hi Everyone,
I just had u/s done yesterday and the dr. found no heartbeat. I was 8wks and 5 days. He strongly suggested a dnc and so I've been reading up on it and have found many posts that have help me made my decision. I am going to wait another week or two and get a 2nd u/s to make sure there is no heartbeat. If there is still no heartbeat, then I will consider dnc. But many posts I've read said they have found hb during 2nd and 3rd u/s. So, I am keep hope alive and plz pray for my baby.
THank you all for sharing so much.

A D&C is just a fancy word for abortion. I'm not gonna get into the legalities or moral issues of that. My only point is that, if you miscarry, your body WILL do it. leave it alone. If you see the baby pass and there is still tissue left in the uterus, I could see someone getting a D&C. otherwise, YES, there is still hope for the baby. Its safer for your body if you let it naturally miscarry anyway. Let the baby pass, then go in for a clean sweep. there are many times that a situation is misdiagnosed or seems like something else. Symptoms of pregnancy are too broad and common for the doctor to decide whether the baby should live or die. The doc may be right, and if they are, well, your body will let you know.

Well, this is among the more ignorant posts I've seen on this site. A D&C is not just a fancy word for abortion. It's a medical procedure that is used for a variety of purposes, both related and unrelated to pregnancy. It's a quick, routine, and low-risk surgery that rarely results in complications, although with any surgery, one should ask about and become aware of any risks, no matter how small.
I believe we should educate ourselves and make the medical decisions that are best for us. A natural miscarriage is a perfectly valid choice for some, a medical miscarriage (i.e. one induced by drugs) is a perfectly valid choice for some, and a D&C is a perfectly valid choice for some. It's not necessarily safer for your body to pass the tissue naturally. This depends on how long the pregnancy lasted, how long it's been since the embryo passed away, your emotional state, and other factors that you should discuss with your doctor or midwife before making your decision.
I agree that if you have any misgivings, you should certainly ask for a follow-up ultrasound to be sure. But, unfortunately, it is possible to have a miscarriage without pain, bleeding, or cramping. It's a devastating event, and not very common, but sadly, it does happen. When it does, you do what you need to do and handle your miscarriage, physically and emotionally, the best way that suits you.
To those of you who have experienced losses, my deepest sympathies to you. I lost my first pregnancy at 11 weeks and although time heals a lot of the pain, it's an experience never forgotten.

Ladies,
There is a strong connection between ultrasound and miscarriages!! Please do not get ultrasound in ur first trimester and you would see you would not have no miscarriage. Doctors office and medical companies make money off the ultrasound. The fetus cannot be saved till 7 months so why bother knowing about it. Besides entertainment and pictures it has no value, please don't kill your fetus. I had a miscarriage too because of it!!!! No one in my family had it because they didn't go for ultrasound till the third trimester.

I went in today for my monthly check up... My doctor tried to find the heartbeat using the doppler and couldnt but stated that they usually have a difficult time at an early stage. I was 10 weeks and 3 days when I lost the baby, or so the mesurments state. I went in on what would have been 10 weeks 6 days.... I am scheduled for a D & C tomorrow morning and am scared out of my mind. I have no idea what it is about. or anything. The baby was in perfect condition just days prior to this. I havent had any bleeding or cramping and nothing or no one can give me any information as to what went wrong.. I jsut want an anwer..... =[ I know I wont have one.. but im scared..

I am 11 weeks I went to get an US and there was no heartbeat. I just went to have an 3D US done a week prior heart rate was at 165 and baby was very active. They are telling me to have a D&C tomorrow. I haven't had a cramping or bleeding. Should I still be hopeful and hold off on the D&C? I still feel pregnant and have no indication of a miscarriage. Anyone with any good news for us?

I expeirenced something similar 2 this. I went to my OB check up on Aug. 12th they performed a vaginal ultrasound on me and discovered a "featl Sac" with no baby. I was about 6weeks even then and they advised me to have a d&c. However I told them that I am not comfy with that and that I choose to wait to see what's going on b/c although they didn't see anything in the sac my "beta" numbers were good and my Progesterone levels were normal so she says it may just be a slow progressing pregnancy however she feels like it's a "lighted Ovum"
I am a beliver in Christ and I chose to trust and depend on his report over the Dr's report. He is the one that allowed "life" 2 enter into my womb and I refuse to allow "man" to make me abort! If it happens then that's different but I'm NOT gonna take matters into my own hands. I would say just try 2 be encouraged and thinks of the best outcome and trust that God will bring u comfrot no matter what!

I went in for my first check-up for my second pregnancy. I just moved so it was a new doctor, new practice, and new everything. I have been feeling great and having a very easy pregnancy so far. The doctor performed an internal ultrasound and did not find what he was looking for, he saw no baby, no sac, nothing! I was freaking out. I mean I had no cramping, no bleeding, nothing. I've had a number of miscarriages, so I know what they feel like and I was almost 11 weeks along. So after two days of fretting and worrying and wanting to know one way or another. The doctor's office called my Hcg levels were fantastic and they want me to go to a specialist for another ultrasound. We went in and the tech performed an external exam, bam, there's the baby, it's a little high in the uterus and the tech said she wouldn't have seen it with an internal exam either, everything looks great, the heartrate is strong, it's just as it's supposed to be. So it wasn't a great start to working with this new practice, but I am delighted that things worked out. Reading this forum helped me on the first day after the 'bad' ultrasound, it reminded me that if it was a miscarriage it was for a reason, and let me get to a place where I just wanted to know so I could move forward. I am thrilled that the way it turned out was good and I wanted to post so that people would know it could turn out positive. I agree with some of the posts, if I hadn't had an ultrasound, I would never have been worried at all, but the technology is really amazing!

I also had a miscarriage almost 4 months ago.I got pregnant but no baby was there.I think they call it a balighted ovum?I hope I spelled that right.Anyways I was shocked too cause I also was not bleeding or cramping.Sometimes our bodies just don't relize it.And by listening to all these it happens a lot.I'm very sorry for everyone who is going through a miscarriage.I am currently almost 8 weeks pregnant.I went for an ultrasound and they seen a baby this time with a very healthy heartbeat.I'm still very scared because of the last miscarriage.I think every little cramp means I'm having a miscarriage.I cant wait to get past the first trimester.I pray every night that everything goes ok.GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!

I’m having the same problem…I’m 18years old and 11 weeks pregnant and was just told my baby has no heartbeat…I’m having no symptoms of miscarriage, no bleeding or cramping. But on another note. My breasts are less sore…My doc told me to stay home in case i start bleeding and if i don’t in about two weeks she will schedule me for a D&C…but if there is any hope at all that my baby is still alive, I will hold off on the D&C until my body miscarriages on its own...

I perform early pregnancy scans and am midwife. Some of the comments here are so irresponsible as no two cases are exactly the same. In my department we are sensitive, and spend a huge amount of time giving explainatons and support at a difficult time. We are humans too and can also feel upset having to give bad news on a daily basis. It is ridiculous to suggest that the sonographer may have been sleepy and therefore missed the heartbeat, honestly!!.
There are very stringent controls in place to ensure the correct diagnosis is reached prior to surgery. The doubting by women is entirely natural when they are grieving, but this scaremonger will only prolong the grieving in women who come to these forums for advice. We would always offer a second opinion if requested and i would never discharge a patient unless they are completely satisfied that no mistake has been made. Please speak to your carers if you have questions, that is what we are there for, but dont blame us for your grief. We want to help you not cause more distress.
There are always two sides to the story and I am telling ours.(incidentally, as humans, dont forget that we too may have suffered pregnancy loss ourselves - I have - and this job can at times bring back sad memories for us)

I am 38 years old and have had 3 miscarriages in the last year. I found out right before christmas we were expecting due august 21, day after my birthday. I went for a ultrasound at 7 weeks 1 day. They said they couldn't find a fetus. The doctor took my hand and said that not to worry, it could just be too early and to come back the in 4 days. I went back on Friday and there my little bean was with a strong heartbeat of 138 bpm. Doctor put me on Prometrium and aspirin just to be safe. I did everything he told me to do. I went back at 10 weeks 1 day last monday for a u/s to make sure baby was growing right. Well they were quick to judge and said I'm sorry your baby has no heartbeat. He suggested "getting rid of it" by taking cytotec. He said I will give you 1 week, if you don't lose it by then, I will schedule a D & C. Well I'm just not excepting that answer until I get a second opinion. This will have been 4 miscarriages in one year, I cannot handle loss like this. The doctor never even did my blood workup yet, couldn't they have found if something is wrong? Well I'm going for a second opinion today, and hoping for the best.
