I have the exact same problem. Sore bridge of the nose, red in one area, sinus pressure, stuffy on one side, sore neck, and feel like I am coming down with a cold. With a little research, I found out what it probably is. SINUSITIS. Clears up on its own (may need antibiotics). I've been taking over the counter cold medicine so I can sleep at night and anti-inflamitory (Aleve) to make my nose feel better. Warm compresses with a wash rag also help.

This is so weird to see as many people with the same symptoms as myself. I felt a little crazy for awhile 'cause none of this made sense. Its been about 4 days now since i woke up with the bridge and inside of my nose sore. It seems I have more drainage than my normal allergies but it is clear. Haven't been hit in it though it feels like its fractured. What the heck is going on and should I go to the doctor? %-)

:-( Hi, sorry we are all looking like RUDOLPH! I think what's going on is that the mucosal lining inside your nose can get small cracks, like badly dry skin, from dry cold air in winter or from allergies. Most people also have staph germs continually living in their nostrils, and when given the opportunity by the crack in the nasal lining, the germ gets into the tissue, you can get cellulitis, and a staph infection inside the nose tissue. It is horribly painful and usually can be helped only by prescription antibiotics. Warm compresses and pain meds are the only relief. If a blister like lesion appears you could have it opened to provide relief from the pressure. Do not wait and let this spread further into your sinuses or you will be REALLY sick. Sometimes the MD will test to see what type of infection youve got, like MRSA, or other, in order to give you the antibiotic which will cure you the fastest. In worst cases some people have to get IV antibiots. Also, any drainage or pus or anything that comes out of this area is HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS with the staph germs. If your spouse or others have any open cut they can get the staph from you. I hope this helps!

I've had a swollen nose for four days now. More so on the left than the right. Tenderness on the bridge and sides of the nose but no swelling or sensitivity inside the nostrils. It started with itchy eyes and a runny nose like an allergic reaction but the itchiness and runny nose stopped over night which is when the swelling and tenderness showed up. I gently massage my nose from the bridge to the side to help reduce the swelling. The area doesn't feel warm to the touch so I don't think its an infection. Cold compresses seem to reduce the swelling and tenderness temporarily. Wish I could find out what's going on in my nose.

It is very strange to see so many with this same issue! I also woke up about four days ago feeling like I had been hit in the nose. Had a bad head cold that cleared a few days before the sore nose issue began. It is quite painful at the bridge and upper sides of my nose with some swelling. It feels like pressure is being applied to the bridge of my nose. I went to the doctor today who said it appeared to be Sinus Cellulitus and gave a 10 day prescription for Cipro. It definitely feels like someone hit me in the nose and causes me to wince when I smile or wrinkle my nose. Hoping the Cipro helps!

I'm so glad to find out that I'm not the only person with this! Two days ago I woke up with a red, painful are on the bridge of my nose. I know that I did not hit my nose on anything. I just thought that I was rubbing it too hard due to my constantly itchy nose. I am a teacher and my school nurse suggested it may be cellulitis. I knew from my grandmother what cellulitus was but I thought it only occurred in the legs. I went to the doctor and she diagnosed me with a touch of cellulitus on my nose. I was very concerned because I'm very healthy and I thought that only people with diabetes and immune issues got this infection. Since I teach kindergarten I am around germy kids all the time! Glad to know Im not the only one!

How very weird! Today is the fourth day that I've had pain in the cartilage of my nose, and I have an appointment with the doctor this afternoon. I hope that she does not blow me off... it's quite tender, and it hurts to wear my glasses. Today the skin is painful as well, but as of yesterday, it just seemed to be in the bone. I hate taking antibiotics, and have not taken one in probably 8 years, but I will definitely take it if she prescribes one this time! I do have a pimple on the side of my nose; I wonder if that could be related. Hmmmm....

So wierd to see so many with the same thing, I have had this for the last three days now. I havn't gone to the doctor because I figured it was something that would go away.
Mine is also on the left side and on the top of the bridge, its VERY sinsitive on the top of the bridge and when I move it around I can hear a sound like mucus or bones =P. Nobody has hit me in the nose, but it feels like it and looks like it. its red and a bit warmer than the rest of my nose says my wife anyway.

Count me in. Woke up three days ago with my nose feeling like somebody punched it from the inside. I've had a cold, and have been sneezing a lot. Maybe it's just localized swelling from that? -- but the weird thing is no blockage and swelling on the inside where you'd expect congestion to be. Instead, it's all on the surface part and feels just like a bad bruise. I'm going to try the hot rags and green tea mentioned elsewhere. I hoped it'd go away on its own, but it's pretty much the same. Really alters my appearance, and not for the better!

I've had this diagnosed as cluster headaches. It starts with itchy eyes and then a runny nose. One of my eyes swells and I develop the painful red nose and eventual headache or bruised pain on the forehead above the eye and pain behind the eye and sometimes the swelling of the temple next to the effected side. Sometimes I also develop for just a few minutes an aura that feels like you've been in out in the sunlight and have come inside the house and yours eyes haven't had time to adjust. I am taking Cymbalta for them, it is helping some but isn't totally eliminating them.

Dang, I too have the same problem..no other symptoms that would point to any kind of illness...just a bruised feeling on the bridge of my nose like I got punched..I actually thought my wife hit me in our sleep... the nasal cellulitis makes alot of sense though... we'll see what the doc says.

8-| Well I am another one with the bruised bridge of the nose. I too had a cold before this and I too had a little nose bleed. I googled it and it came up with the same results. went to NHS walk in center today. They weren't much help told me to put on cold compress and take paracetamoll
She did not think it was sinus...
I also felt as though I had been hit on the nose during the night.
A friend at work says she has had it in the past and it was sinus. Who Bloody knows.?! But if you find out please let me know.

Same here. Three days ago woke with tenderness and redness at top bridge of my nose and felt as if I'd been punched. No usual sinus symptoms of runny nose or congestion. Waiting to get new insurance policy approved after hubby retired, so if anyone has over the counter recommendations, I'd appreciate it.

I'll add my name to the list of sufferers! My nose felt a little sore inside at the bridge about 2 weeks ago and gradually got worse, but in the last couple of days it has rapidly got worse - I feel like I've got a broken nose as it's really sore to the touch, and swollen across the bridge. I normally have a fairly 'straight' nose but now look like I have quite a pronounced 'roman nose'!
I have made an appointment with the doctor later this week as the problem doesn't seem to have gone away on its own. Bit concerned that so many other people on the forum are experiencing the same thing but without resolution!
From all the websites I've searched I'd put my money on sinusitis, and hope it can be treated with antibiotics, as the pain & change in appearance is not nice :-(

Well count me in too. This seems to be a common problem and I am scared. I woke up yesterday to the left side of my nose being sore, about halfway up. It feels broken. I went to ear nose and throat doctor today and he wasnt sure what was going on but put me on something called Clyndimyacin? Says the stuff is brutal and to eat alot of yogurt cos it messes with your intestinal tract. Nice huh? Walked out not knowing how this all came about. What I find sad is no one reports back! I plan to count on it. If anyone wants to email me please do so at I hope someone checks in some time.
