My son is 7 days post tonsillectomy/adnoidectomy. Recovery has been tough, lost of pain, bad breath, low grade fever, no talking and not much eating. Today he seemed to get his appetite back and wanted a grilled cheese. He ate a few bites and then had some pain. Not long after that he had a nose bleed. Not very bad, but it bleed for a few minutes. His throat looked ok, no visable bleeding there. Is this normal after the adnoids being removed?

Hi there Kham,

Your son might experience some nose bleeds from his wounds, but having nose bleeds is not normal. He should visit your doctor as soon as possible.  Blood cloths after the surgery can be life threatening.

What kind of diet  is he on? Sometimes this can be caused by the food that he is eating right after the surgery. However it is very rare that blood is coming from his nose, and not from the wounds in his throat. Is he experiencing any pain in his neck or in  his nose?

His procedure might not went well so I advise you to go back to hospital for a checkup. I don’t think that you can do much at home.

Is it natural to experience fever after a tonsillectomy? What can be done to soothe the throat? I am 24 year old female.
