Hi, im only 21 and my finger has been numb for a week after cutting 20 sheets cakes to bite sizes for a wedding expo. I feel like I am having the same problem with your numb thumb. At first I started to panic i thought my finger was going to fall off, I could not feel it. As the days went by it fel better and now it is at a tingle. I still do not know whats wrong and refuse to pay the doctors a visit over a tingle. if it is something serious HELP MEE!!! thank you!

Hi, I'm 17 and my right thumb has been numb for 5 days now. I can feel a numb tingly sensation whenever I touch the very base of my thumb on the bony part which shoots right up to the pad on the edge of my thumb. I can also feel something vain-like flex loosely inside the base of my thumb when I touch it. I'm pretty worried because this has never happened to me before. This numbness has started since last Wednesday when I was cutting up cardboard with scissors and overdid it... I seriously regret it now, because I think I have some kind of nerve damage, but I really don't know. :'( If anyone could please share some advice with me on how to fix it and treat this I would be so thankful and would really appreciate it. :-D

Hi I think I have the same symptoms as you did (or maybe still do) through using scissors too. I'm wondereing whether your symptoms cleared up after a while. Did they? Are you all better now?

I am definitely not keen on going to the doctors either... My thumb works perfectly normal and I have full movement of it. It's just numb and tingly that's all.

Hi, I am experiencing a lot of the same symtoms, about a week ago I had severe sharp wrist pain a long the tendon, which i presumed was just an overuse injury as I do a lot of sport. A few days went on and the wrist pain became less severe but I started getting pins and needles down my thumb when performing certain actions. Now the inside of my thumb is completely numb and I'm still getting the pins and needles. When I press on the bone at the bottom of my thumb I get shooting pins and needles down my thumb.

if anyone has any advice about what to do that would be great, or what this could be? I'm only 22 years old and already have a lot of problems with one ankle so I hope it's nothing serious!

thank you,

Ruthie, guest,

The exact same thing happened to me three days ago. i was (stupidly) cutting tall grasses in my garden with a paper scissors and I felt a sharp tweak in the spot where the thumb connects to the palm. Afterwards, the tip of my thumb was numb and has remained so. I suspect a damaged tendon impinging on a nerve. Thus, the tennis elbow analogy. Tennis elbow is caused by a swollen tendon (it's also called "tendenitis). my guess is that we are all suffering tendinitis of the thumb. Poke around at the base of your thumb and I bet you will feel pain like I do in a specific spot there. That's where the tendon is.

Woke up this morning with my thumb numb. I was cutting peel n stick floor tile yesterday with a pair of scissors, so it sounds like that may be the culprit. I hope it goes away soon. It's REALLY annoying!

Wow that sounds very similar to mine I even have one damaged ankle. Its been one week for me my right thumb randomly went numb one night and has been ever since, it's driving me crazy I'm worried it will get worse. Have you thought of carpal tunnel?

I hit the side of my thumb very hard six weeks ago. Numbness started about three weeks ago. I have moderate pain if I put too much pressure on this area. When will the pain go away?
