Occasionally I wake up in the night with extreme swelling of the tongue on one side or the other. It extends down my thoat & tonsil making it very difficult swollowing & breathing. There is no association with foods, it just happens. Always happens at night while I am asleep. No marks on tongue and always on one side or the other. After I get up, I am very tired and it takes about 4-5 hours for the swelling to go down. If I go to the hospital, they just treat it as a allergic reaction to something I have eaten but every time this happens, I write down what I have eaten. There is no similar foods that could to making this happen. Please help. I have talked to my physician but she just tells me to go to the hospital when it happens.
I have the same problem. My teeth are rubbing the sides of my tongue. What's the problem?
Did you ever get a diagnosis on swollen tongue? I have had the same thing happen twice recently. Hospital ER was no help.
I get this to, and it seems the most likely thing... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angioedema
I have swelling on just right side of tongue. No change in diet. What can be the cause for this?
