I'm not having anything done close to my face, yet I was told I cant have any cosmetics at all. why?

cosmetics aren't allowed because the surgeons can't see the colours of your lips/skin if you are wearing foundation/lipstick, and they need to see your skin colour in case of emergencies. this general rule just extends to mascara as well.
why do you need to be wearing mascara in surgery?! will you be under general or local anasthetics?
