Hi, I was using OxyContin until my pain stopped three years ago. Now, I it’s back again. I went to a doctor to take a prescription, and he asked me why don’t I try avinza. I said that I was already using OxyContin before, and that I’m certain that it will help me. Did I make a mistake by refusing this drug? Is it similar to OxyContin?
Hi, generic name for avinza is morphine extended-release. It is a form of morphine, specially made to provide long- acting relief of moderate-to-severe pain. It releases doses of morphine continuously during the day, so it should be taken only once daily. It is similar with OxyContin, because of its pain relief effect. Beside that, OxyContin has similar effects to morphine. One more thing these medicines have in common is that they’re both habit-forming. I don’t know is it better or not that you kept using OxyContin, because you didn’t say what causes your pain. Your doctor knows your complete medical history, so it’s best to do what he says.
I took Avinza for a few years until an insurance change forced me to switch to generic morphine sulfate. Avinza is very expensive & in my opinion, is much smoother & better tolerated than the harsher, cheaper generics. The side effects weren't as bad, or hardly ever there. I don't think I would have even considered withdrawing from my pain meds had I been able to continue the Avinza. For me, it was a Godsend.

Hi mate dont mean to be nosey what stort of strengh you get in the US on Ms Contain and do you have to pay for them as im in Australia i have been on 100Mg 2x a day and 2x Proladone for the same time an 5 Mg Valium and 130Mg Serapax for about 28years now at lest it stops the Pain most of the Time Vheer,s Mate ??
