Did anyone find a solution or a name for this situation?

Not sure how to post as guest so hope this works. Am trained EMT who has been retired for some years, often experienced this after attending serious accidents, only after I had finished and had time to sit down. More recently this happens if I am having a prolonged masturbation session but not intervourse. Really debilitating. Last year a dog ran at me barking, the owner caught it and as I began to walk away the pulsing pain started and my knees buckled, it is very worrying but the doctors have all told me there is nothing wrong. I don't know where to go next but am grateful that it is not all in my mind. My best guess is that it is some kind of adrenal gland dysfunction

incidentally the MD who responded didn't really pay attention - she writes about adrenalin rush - which this is not.

Ive just been to a medical drop in centre as cannot get a Doctors appointment for over 3 weeks and i saw a young nurse in her early 20's not a Doctor. As last Adrenalin rush near cripple me and made me feel ill all day also intense pain going from across my lower back up to my shoulder's and across them and into my neck. and leaving a dull ache between my shoulder blades and in lower back.. This nurse insisted that Adrenalin rush does not cause pain. and that it must be muscular. Im an X-Rugby player and Cricketer and have a physical job as a Landscape Gardener Fencer.. And i know when i have torn a muscle or injured my back. and this is not this. Since last attack. due to an intense arguement with a family member. and myself trying to keep the peace. It has left me for over a week now dull ache in my lower back and in my shoulder's/ and an occasional stabbing pain below my stomach and in my groin. Hence going to drop in centre. I know from coming across this site that im not the only one who has this happen and that Adrenalin rush can cause intense pain. .Whether this is connected to some other problem who knows. ??. But to be told by a nurse not a Qualified Doctor that i Quote " Adrenalin rush does not cause pain " has left me quite perplexed. We cannot all be mistaken. !!.

I am a 55 year old woman living with these exact symptoms. I see that you posted this over a year ago. I am wondering if you have found any answers to this?

There is a very clear relationship between the adrenal glands and lower back pain. The adrenal glands are the first responders to percieved stress. Indeed they activate the fight or flight responce. In addition to making adrenalin and stimulating producuction of cortisol, they suppress DHEA while under stress to fully focus on fight or flight. In modern society people experience a lot of stress. The adrenal glands do not differentiate the type of stress. If it is a grizzly bear attacking, or stress at an office job. Stress is stress to the glands. these days people experience stress so often that the adrenal glands can get gronic fatigued so to speak. Problems can then occur with the thyroid, and pancreas, hypofyse and pineal glands. Medically there is something known as HPA axis disbalance. A disbalance in the Hypofyse, Pineapple gland and adrenal gland axis. this can cause all sorts of problems, depending per person what his or her weakest link is.
Another problem is, and here we get to the original question: muscle contraction, which happens when the fight or flight reaction kicks in.
Many musles that support the lower back, just as the knees and feet are connected to the adrenal glands. So when stress kicks in, the musles contract. This is a normal fysical reaction. A problem occurs however when the musles do not stop contracting! "Gronic muscular contraction is painful because, once glycogen (the fuel of muscles) is burned up from a musle's constant use, acids build up around the nerve receptors.
The muscle becomes deeply fatigued, and no fresh blood, oxygen en nutrients can get to it. The muscle becomes literally starved while the demand of work is still being demand from the muscle by the brain. Pain is the result". Why does the musle not relax after the stress ends? This has to do with sensory-motor amnesia.
"In a nutshell, sensory-motor amnesia is what can result when the muscular system and the nervous system get stuck in a feedback loop. These systems keep sending messages back and forth and the muscles keep receiving messages that tell them to contract. The 'amnesia occurs in the neocortx of the brain. Thomas Hanna has conducted groundbreaking work regarding this. Somatic movement is the best cure regarding this issue according to Thomas Hanna and this is in lines with Traditional Chinese Medicine. the Chinese have for centuries already linked the kidneys to brain issues and lower back pain and knee pain, among others. The recommend Tai Chi or Qi Gong for example. Very powerful stuff.

There are some comments from woman if you look closer. I (64 yr old female from Australia!), have had this a few times, always following a big adrenaline rush. It is crippling and frightening. It is most likely related to the adrenals and it would probably take an adrenal specialist to recognise it. Out of the range of GP's.My GP had no idea! Jenny

I think the main points here from the original posts are "Fight Or Flight", this is when the very painful symptoms of many of the males commenting occur. The second key common thing that rings true for me are that it seems to occur or is worse when sitting down such as in a road rage incident.
I first experienced this in my late 20's and probably another 10 or so times since then, I am now in my late 40's.
I have read all the posts before me and a couple have stood out. One spoke of a benign tumor which sounded interesting but for me the explanation of the descending aorta and inferior vena cava which are under extreme pressure in the event of a fight or flight episode tend to get my vote. I think this explanation combined with sitting makes thing worse. I have come to this conclusion as I have had many other fight or flight incidents over the years while standing and I dont recall ever experiencing the severe throbbing pain when standing.
There are probably many other smaller contributing factors but for me and I think many others is that the sitting position is the key.
Can anyone explain how sitting could make the descending aorta and the inferior vena cava create these symptoms worse ? I would guess that like a bend in a pipe it would slow any liquids passing through it down.
It was nice (in a way) to hear I was not alone.
As a footnote I had a DNA test years ago and fond out I carry what they describe as the Warrior gene which I think 1 in 3 males of European decent carry and 2 in 3 maori natives of New Zealand carry. This
I think relates strongly to the fight mode and from experience I can say that although I am a very fair kind hearted person I get very angry with bullies, thieves and the like.
Hope this is of help.

Happens to me every time I am in a stress situation in the car. It's like I can feel my heartbeat in my back and neck. It goes away quickly as the situation ends or I force relax my body by breathing deeper. I thought it was heart related as I take meds for BP but I dont think it is. I think its related to adrenaline rush.

I suffer from the exact same thing. It's not easy to describe it to somebody who hasn't experienced it. I know it's directly related to a surge of adrenaline bc I get knots in my stomach and my heart starts beating hard and fast . I have no clue what is actually causing the pain in my back though...
