I’m glad I’m not the only one who experiences this. I’ve only noticed this sharp/throbbing lower back pain during adrenaline rushes for about the past 3 years. If I had to guess how this happens here is my idea: about 5-6 years ago I was stretching my back and stretched a little too much causing my back to pop and hurt. I’ve had adrenaline rushes in the past and never experienced that sharp jolting/stabbing pain ever until after that so if I had to guess this is the reason why. I wonder if any of you have ever hurt your lower back before experiencing this, I’d love to know. I wish I could figure out how to stop it because the pain is literally incapacitating as many of you have also described. You almost have to stop whatever you’re doing and take a few deep breaths to end the adrenaline rush, which is not very helpful during a fight or flight situation. You need to be focused and not incapacitated by stabbing pains in your back.

I am 30 years old. I had this problem since childhood. The back pain comes right after an adrenaline rush lasts about 20 seconds, and it is throbbing, like it comes in waves that are extremely painful. Has anybody found an answer yet?

Feeling back pain during an adrenaline rush can be worrying. This discomfort often happens because your muscles tense up and your heart beats faster due to the rush of adrenaline. To ease the pain, try relaxation techniques like deep breathing and mindfulness. Also, pay attention to your posture, as standing or sitting correctly can help prevent back pain during intense moments.

This just happened to me, it’s happened before and I didn’t pay it any mind. I almost got ran off the beltway. I was arguing with a guy in a work truck.. he started to get very mouthy like he wanted to fight me so I told him to pull over on the next exit and he did. So, of course, I followed him. I got out of my car to confront this guy about what you just done and as he started to get out my back damn near locked up. Of course as soon as this happened I lowered my voice and started talking, because I obviously didn’t want any problems with that going on. It was so weird when adrenaline kicked in the sharp pain in my lower back started immediately.. google it to see if it was common and I seen all these responses so this seems like a pretty common thing

I am a 41 yr old man in good health aside from some minor back spasms from a sports injury in my teens. When I get mad and have a rush of adrenaline, I too get debilitating back pain in my lower to mid back. Every year when I get a physical, I mention this to the doctor and they have no remedy for it. I’ve been trying to keep my back stretched out and get a massage whenever possible. I hope this never happens in a fight or flight situation as I would not be able to fight back due to the pain it causes. If you find a cause, please share it on here. You are not alone.

So I’m actually server underweight as a 28 yr old under 135lbs and same thing happens to me. Only it’s my lower back that gets intense pain. This happens when I get into a fight or flight mode. I recently got brake checked in my semi truck it sent a surge of adrenaline in my body as I was trying to get distance from the aggressive car. Immediately my lower back gave me sharp stabbing pains that were almost unbearable. I only feel this pain when I get a surge of adrenaline

I sure would like to know what this is. It happened to me today for the first time my phone rang very early this morning, and when I answered, my mother was crying. I didn't know what she was going to tell me my body went into and before she even spoke. Sadly, her brother had passed away, but I guess I was expecting to hear something was wrong with my 86 year-old father. I did have a steroid shot a few days ago. I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but any answers would be awesome.

I am a 60 year old female.  I started having these episodes about 9 years ago.  I had injured my lower back and was having chiropractic care VERY FREQUENTLY.  I healed up from the initial injury after about a year.  But I discovered I would still have these random episodes that seemed to come about as a result of a sudden, stressful situation.  I figured I just needed another adjustment.....hence thousands of dollars to the chiropractor and still no answers.  I was starting to notice, when I would have an episode, that the pain would subside after a while.  One particular episode I was taking care of my sick horse and couldn't afford to be debilitated.  The horse's distress triggered an adrenaline rush in me and the pain started.  I had to help her so I tried focusing on relaxing and breathing.  The pain subsided.  That was when I began to suspect that this wasn't necessarily a misalignment issue.  Over the next several years I have had repeated episodes and noticed that they were all triggered by a heightened stress response to either negative or even positive situations.  The worst one was while I was taking Dexamethisone for an infection in a tooth.  I had been having short, mild episodes that were becoming more frequent.  I went out to check on a cow that was due to calf and found them both in the pasture.  They were fine but my adrenaline kicked in because I needed to take care of dressing the calf's navel and making sure momma and baby were doing well.  The pain started in my low back, pulsating with my heart beat.  As I worked, bent over, I felt the pain radiate up my back and neck and start a headache.  I freaked out thinking I was having a heart attack (which only aggrevated the situation).  I finished with the calf (because farming....) and went to the house to have my husband take me to the ER.  They got me right in and discovered my BP was elevated.  Gave me nitro (just in case) which caused my BP to crash.  Apparently that was ok.  The back pain had subsided as well.  Tests showed no heart attack.  The doctor explained that the Dex was the most likely culprit for the episode.  I stopped taking it right away.

I normally take Calcium, Magnesium and a multi-vitamin as well as Emergen-C Plus Immune support which contains electrolytes.  I still have episodes, mostly with low back pain and generally short duration.  When they start, I can feel the trigger of adrenaline and increased BP.  I will try to acknowledge that this is my body's stress response and focus on mental relaxation.  I have to get my brain past the pain response in order to overcome the body's reaction.  If I become more stressed because of the pain, it lasts longer and can spread.  I would love to find some more answers and a solution that can eliminate or control this condition but so far it appears no-one has had any success in the medical community.  I am going to try an adrenal support supplement next.  I continue to see a different chiropractor and massage therapist who both have a whole-body focus for treatment.  This chiropractor addresses misalignment by working to relieve tightness in soft tissues that support the vertebra not just performing spinal manipulation.  I know I definitely cannot take Dexametisone!
