I had a really close call today driving in to work with my family. I exchanged words with the fellow who nearly ran my car off the road. It was the angriest I had ever been in quite some time. After I drove off, I felt the adrenaline pumping through my body. It felt like with every heartbeat, there was a throb of pain in my lumbar region. I tried contracting my abdominal muscles and controlling my breathing, but it didn't help much. With every throb of pain, I lurched forward in the driver's seat. It lasted no more than 3 minutes, but it was very uncomfortable.
I just happened upon this thread searching for people experiencing the same symptoms. I've had this happen before, and like many others, during close call situations, fight or flight situations, or in anticipation of some sort of stress or conflict.

OK, I - WE - must find the answer to this. The first time I experienced what I describe as the very painful feeling of far too much fluid traveling up my spine was when I nearly had a serious car incident. The pain took my breath and I had to mentally try to conquer it sit still and wait for it to subside. It painfully pulsed and intensified before it began to subsided - maybe two minutes back to total normal. My heart was probably beating faster but the pain up my spine was so great that's all I really noticed.
Now I've had it happen many other times when my safety is not in danger - just nerves right after sitting down from a performance that is being critiqued!
It's scarry and I want to find the solution for all of us. Really no medical findings? I know I've found nothing to help understand this.

I'm another case here. I'm a 39 year old police officer. Some years ago, when I was involved in high-stress intensive situations during a shift, later that day it would always feel like I strained my back. Today, I had a speeding/reckless vehicle go by me during work. I immediately gave chase in my patrol car and he took off even faster. With lights and sirens blaring for several miles down the road, he finally noticed me and pulled over. I absolutely went into my "pursuit" mode but quickly noticed a centralized pain in my lower back that felt like it was right at my spine. I thought my back was about to spasm in a big way, and moved around in my seat to loosen it up, which may have helped it, I don't know. I just thought I would Google it and found all of you. Interesting. Hopefully someone can steer us in the right direction sometime soon.
