This exact thing has happened to me. One doc said it was muscle spasms. Didn't feel like a muscle spasm to me. The next doc said it was a disc issue. Had an x-ray. It isn't a disc issue. Now I'm having a 24-hour urine test to check my catecholamines in my urine and did a blood test for thyroid (which came back normal).
The very first time it happened was when I almost got into a car wreck. Now it can happen for no reason. Last weekend was the first time that it was more like a throbbing/pulsing up near my neck and down the spine, instead of just being isolated to the lower back like before.
All of the docs I've brought it up to seem not to know anything about it.

At the end of Nov.2012 I finally got into the VA for my annual check up. Well the blood test came back great except for a high number for LDL's and so my doctor who is good about natural foods and such says for me to get a special blood test for thyroid which I did and it came back with perfect levels. I went to Dr. Mercola's website and found some figures for good and bad cholesterol and found that I was still within safe bounderies and as well searched for this adrenalin pain issue and that's when I found that Ashwagandha and Magnolia bark could be helpful and it has helped to some extent. But then due to a friend doing research for liver cancer because his younger brother was not responding to American Cancer Center treatment, he came upon Hyper-Oxygenation therapy and after reading and article by Dr. David G. Williams titled "The Many Benefits of Hydrogen Peroxide" I have begun using it and so far after just two weeks this back pain issue seems to be disappearing and as a bonus my blood pressure is showing much lower numbers than I've ever had. As always, remember that what works for one person doesn't alway work for another so do your own research. I recommend to also get the book titled "The One Minute Cure: The Secret To Healing Virtually All Diseases" . Also go to the Educate-Yourself website and read the article titled "Forbidden Cures" as it will tell you why alternative cures are often ridiculed, buried or banned.

I'm in.I would name the site "Weird back pain" - or "Unusual back pain" because this is certainly different than just back pain.

I have the same issue. I have been in multiple street fights and this never happens. But, when I become very angry and feel that a fight is coming, but it doesn't.....I get this pain in my lower back for a few minutes. I have determined with me that this must be when I have an adrenal rush but my body doesn't use it. Because, when I fight, I have never felt the pain. But, I always feel it when the situation becomes intense but never comes to a fight. I think the body feels the pain when the rush of adrenaline comes but your body doesn't use it.

Well I can't believe how many of you guys have this and no one really knows what it is yet :/ Yesterday was my first attack, first off I was up for 2 days no sleep, used around 300mg of caffeine the first day being up and another 300mg the second day. I didn't eat much either, been going through a divorce so stress and anxeity has been high, this day was much higher than normal from some news I recieved in the morning. So I went out with my girlfriend, a group of 3 guys were in a car passing by me in the parking lot of metro, one gave me the finger and I gave the finger back, I went in got the food I needed, came back out, took about 20min, as I'm driving out those 3 people waited for me in the car and pull up behind me, they ended up following me down to my street, I can't describe how angry I was, I've been competing in kickboxing and grappling the last 5 years and been training for the last 8 years so I can for sure say fear was the last thing on my mind against these 3 punks(they looked between 18-21), I just wanted to pound them all. So I pulled over, they pulled over, I started walking towards there car and they ended up backing up and turning around.
I got back into the car and out of no where that feeling started hurting in my spin/lower back/kidney area. I've had a buldging disc before and I can say this was nothing like a bulging disc or lower back pump, this was so intense I felt useless, I wasn't sure if I was about to have a heart attack or what, it lasted for about 20 seconds and went away. Weird back pain describes it best as someone mentioned, I really hope the other factors of stress, no sleep and high amounts of caffeine + this situation is what caused this for me, because I can't imagine having to deal with this all the time. I hope you all find out what this is, fingers crossed I never experience something like this again.

This happens to my Mother, and has for years, she sweats during the episode and feels tired after. She is insulin dependent diabetic, and usually tries eating something to help the symptoms. It also happens when she does not hydrate well. She also feels weak and lays down before she faints. It might have something to do with your blood sugar levels, neuropathy, dehydration, etc. Worth checking out. See an endocrinologist.

This happens to me on and off for the last couple years. I'm 37 and in good condition, no heart problems or health problems at the moment. Just had a blood test physical about 6 months ago. When I get intensely angry, I get a throbbing in my kidneys and I become lightheaded. The pain grows and I can feel it coming on, the first couple throbs I feel and then the pain is intense and then it calms down after a couple minutes. I really wish I could figure out what this is.

I am a nurse, and I have been experiencing these symptoms for the last 6 years. I am 50 years old, in great shape with no physical ailments. I work with several physicians of different specialities and I have described my symptoms to a few of them. Most of them really have had no idea understanding what these symptoms are and they certainly haven't linked these symptoms to any obvious disease.
One doctor suggested that it sounded like a fight or flight response and that it may be a sympathetic response. Hence feeling the pain, throbbing and stiffness down the spine. As like most of you, my symptoms occurred during a sudden fright, ie; while in my car, on the freeway, on an airplane when I have hit severe turbulence, also, interesting enough, when something frightening was happening with one of my patients. When my adrenalin kicked in.
Ths is not Addison's disease, Diabetes or too much caffeine. I truly feel that it s a sympathetic nervous system reaction. Some of us blogging have had these symptoms for so long, that I cannot believe that there is any type of significant disease, because. I would have been dead by now, or at least developed other symptoms by now. I'm fine and healthy. I have probably had at lease 25 episodes of this response.
I noticed on this forum, quite a few blogs back, that this actually happened to a physician, just finishing med. school. Hopefully, he will continue to research this phenomenon. These are such strange and frightening symptoms, that someone does need to get to the bottom of this. Even though it probably is not life threatening.
Lets keep this forum going.

Wow is all I can say. I'll make this as brief as possible. I live in Bermuda. Suffer excruciating back pain in my lower lumbar region specifically after near accident occurences while on the roads, or during intense emotional strain that I am unable to act on, usually anger. The pain is chronic now after occuring really badly a few weeks ago.
I believe I was dehydrated at the onset of it, and little has helped since then. I suffer allergies and I believe someone mentioned Benadryl in a previous post. Few antihistimines work for me and when diphenhydramine (makes you drowsy) started losing its effectiveness, I turned to Alegra which has worked. My father also has issues with High Blood Pressure and wonder if I may as well even though I haven't been diagnosed. I did a full physical a year ago and my blood work was so impressive the doctor asked what my lifestyle was like.
Like the rest of you, I am desperate for an answer to this post adrenaline release agony. Oh, the other similarity I noticed was someone mentioned having compressed discs. My L3 and L4 discs were compressed leaving me with moderate degrees of pain (according to the surgeon pain levels are mild, moderate and severe. They only operate on the lumbar discs on severe cases.) This lasted for about three years. After taking whatever precribed meds and a few months of physiotherapy with little relief, I quite coincidentally found some relief after stopping the physio and meds. Some reading on the benefits of water helped. I self diagnosed myself as having been chronically dehydrated for years. After almost doubling my water intake daily the lumbar region issue cleared up. No a doctor is not going to prescribe you water for pain. Water is free, and cures so much it's unbelievable. However few doctors are trying to cure people. There is no money to be made in healthy people, and there is certainly no money to be made on prescribing people things that have little to no cost. So I hope that helps the person who mentioned the disc problem. This however hasn't seemed to do anything in relation to this adrenaline rush thing.
Transitioning from sitting to standing is when I feel it the worst and walking doesn't look or feel good at that time. Some of you are on to some good ideas here. Hoping for an answer soon.
