I would say this has been happening to me for a little over a year now. I'm 25, pretty decent health maybe 10lbs overweight.

I experience what I would call "adrenaline spasms" in my back as well. Mildly painful, and they almost always happen when I am seated. They occur after/while masturbating or playing first-person-shooter video games. A pumping pressure that almost feels like it is inside my spine pushing up to the back of my neck. A very unnatural feeling. I get a couple heart jumps/ arrythmias with these symptoms as well.

Fun times.

Very interesting and good to know I'm not the only sufferer of this condition - whatever it is!

I've been suffering with exactly the same intense lower back pain that you guys have experienced for a number of years, and it always happens during stressful experiences - usually when I'm driving or if I'm at work and someone is having a go at me (I try and avoid stress at work as much as I can now).

The only thing that I can think of that seems to trigger it is the feeling of stress and helplessness! If someone is having a go at me over the phone at work, I can't respond in the way that I'd like, which would be to give them a massive mouthful back, and I have to try and stay calm and keep it all inside, which is what triggers these episodes. Same as driving, if someone cuts me up or causes another stressful epsisode when I'm driving, it's the inability to be able to release the anger and stress that causes these pains.

I'm not a violent man by any strecth of the imagination but when I have one of these attacks, I feel like I could actually kill someone!

There must be some sort of chemical reaction/release that's causing these attacks, both phsycially and mentally. Would really like to know if there is a medical term or known medical reason for this to happen and if there's anything that can be done about it.

I sort of guessed on the pain I was having being related to adrenalin.  Only it affects me across the back, down the spine and sometimes affects the top of my lungs like a pleurisy.  At first I thought it might be a heart issue but I found that if I was out working like splitting firewood or digging with a shovel  the pain would go away and it felt good to be doing hard exercise.  Oddly the time that it seems to effect me most is when watching a excitingly suspenseful movie or TV program.  I just turned 70 and am very active, not overweight and in good physical condition.  I will say with all the chemicals and other additives in foods and water now days it wouldn't surprise me if that wasn't a large part of the problem.  One other thing that could have effected my problem is that for a number of years I passed very painful kidney stones.  Ever since 1999 I've been following a blood type diet and haven't had another stone.  It seems strange that no one with helpful info has posted here.

I am 52 - I had my first "episode" or "attack" just before my stage entrance as the lead in my high school play. I experienced it a couple of dozen times over the years, under stressful situations. Two years ago i was diagnosed with LAS (Legal Abuse Syndrome), which is essentially PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome) due to prolonged and corrupt divorce litigation, which resulted in homelessness, job loss, exacerbated fibromyalgia symptoms, but most of all severe anxiety attacks and a startling increase of what I call "spinal cord attacks." They now also happen to me often when I orgasm! Crazy! I try to pull myself down on my hands and knees and drop my belly, essentially arching like the yoga cat position. It takes up to two minutes to subside, and then I crawl, stomach still DOWN, forward and backward. (see cross-pattern crawling and Gonstead chiropractic method). I also believe this is related to adrenaline and cortisol spikes. Recently it began happening without a "trigger," but I think this is because I am constantly on the "ready" to receive bad news via email, snail mail, or text - from my ex or legal personnel. I had an attack tonight and REMEMBERED my naturopath prescribed ADRENAL ASSIST by VITANICA (can be ordered online). I took three tonight. Here we go. God less all of you who share this paralyzing, unexpected, embarrassing and painful "syndrome."

Jerry, if you're seventy I'm curious as to how long you have experienced this. I am 41 and have had it for several years. recently, in the last few weeks actually I have noticed it in my chest as well. I really hope someone in this thread can shed some light on it. it doesn't warrant a doctor visit, as I know they will not be able to tell me anything in the office. I am a lymphoma survivor and have had every imaginable type of blood work taken through the years. most of these are tolerable, however sometimes they are excruciating. the best comfort I have had so far is this thread, and knowing that I am not alone in this

My pains started early spring of this year when I started adding on to our deck I was wondering if I could even finish the job but as I would work through the day I always seemed to feel better.  As to those that had lymphoma in the past when you consider how toxic chemo is you have to realize it's probably going to throw a lot of your glands out of wack.  What with GMO foods, BPa in food containers, usless food additives and fillers, crops grown on depleted soils due to chemical fertilizers and no crop rotation we really are under an attack.  I don't even want to get into the horrors of feed lots for the meats we eat, so it's a kind of secret war against our health and well being.   It's no small wonder I guess that we often have so many unexplained pains and sicknesses as the very glands, such as the adrenal gland, are our bodies first line defense and when they have been attacked long and hard they are overstressed and throw out the pain stuff to let us know they've had enough, at least that's the only way I can explain it.  However, I am resolved to fight against letting it get to me and will do everything I can to overcome pain.  I have too much to do in life to let things like this slow me down.

I am a recovering alcoholic. I used to experience these pains while going through withdrawal (kind of felt I deserved those). The other day someone hijacked my Paypal account which I caught and fixed, but it wasn't over yet. My bank account went to zero because the electronic "paperwork" hadn't cleared yet. When I saw the zero balance, I had a anxiety attack (which is something I never experienced). The adrenaline caused the same exact pain you've described from my kidneys all the way to the muscles in the top of my neck where they attach to my skull. There was a serious burning sensation also. This scared me and I started looking online until I found this post. Thank you all for sharing. I feel better about this now. I will ask my doctor his opinion in a few weeks on my next scheduled appointment.

The last week of November I finally went in to see my VA doctor for my annual, my blood test numbers were all good except LDL's being on the high side but the HDL level basically cancelled  the LDL  problem.   Blood sugar, thyroid and PSA were all good.  I told the doctor about the back pains and that I thought it was adrenaline related, he really didn't seem to think I was off base but gave no answer either.  He did have me go in for a thyroid blood test to see if that had something to do with the high LDL number and that test came back with all numbers in the good range.  Anyway I've been using a homeopathic remedy called Rhus Toxicodendron  which is made from the leaves of the poison ivy plant that is supposed to help relieve backpain and pains from arthritis.  It seems to really help me, but what's ironic is that there is a lot of poison oak around where we live and it has the same oils in it as poison ivy.  Now I've never had really bad reactions to being slapped in the face or otherwise handling poison oak but I know others that just have to be around them to have severe skin reactions.  This is NOT a recommendation for others to use Rhus Tox., I'm just saying that it and a muscle soother with arnica in it knocks my back pains quickly.

You are not crazy! Doctors can be, though. Talk to naturopaths or healers or chiropractors, and you can sometimes get better insight and COMPASSION. Jerry, above, mentioned a poison ivy extract for pain, however, these "attacks" usually come without warning. Is this your experience??? I read somewhere, a coupla years ago, that this "experience" is common for fibromyalgia sufferers - which I am - but so many people have written about it that it MUST have a name. Adrenal rush syndrome sounds the "closest" to what it is. As I posted before, getting immediately onto my hands and knees (though this is difficult, scary, and painful), and dropping my stomach making a deep arch, and either rocking back and forth or crawling, seems to make "it" pass within 45 seconds. Have you noticed that you are edgey or nervous or scared or stressed when this occurs?? I feel for you.
