Looked up pheochromocytoma and symptoms don't fit, my pain is a bit different from others here as it hits me across the back of my shoulders and sometimes feels like the top of my lungs hurt like sucking in cold air. I've check my blood pressure during this pain and it's been normal. Others here talk about the pain starting in the kidneys and traveling up their back and those symptoms are also different than those of pheochromocytoma.

I tend to do this when I am stressed or get cold! I am so glad it's not just me ,but I do want to try and figure out what it is and why this happens.  I know it's not all in my head and just want relief from all this. Any input would help,I do have scoliosis, so I am not for sure if that is a factor or not.

Get an ECG done. You're likely to see an ST segment elevation consistent with a myocardial infarction

I am a 45 year old male experiencing the same lower back pain when in fight or flight situations, I am in excellent health otherwise and am not in a stressful job or situation, over the last year I have been involved in three seperate incidents where the fight or flight mechanism kicked in and each time was debilitated by stabbing pains in the kidney area, it seems doctors know nothing of this but I am just glad other people get this too as I thought I was going mad.

This pain originating near the kidneys is the descending aorta and inferior vena cava under extreme pressure, your basically on the verge of a aneurism. The pressure buildup is caused by the constriction of the artery due to massive cortisone and adrenalin release. Usually used up by muscles in vigorous activity, however as you get older and especially when your unfit, the bodies ability to eliminate this from the blood stream at speed diminishes. When your body prepares for fight or flight then you just sit down,  the reaction results in massive blood pressure spike around this area. be very careful, your arteries are on the verge of bursting open followed by rapid onset of death.

I too suffer from as described by everyone else. My worst pain was in a road rage traffic incident. I was wound up and the pain in my back cripled me for 5 minutes. I also get the back pain in confrontations. Just yesterday I suffered a minor back pain (standing up) after a heated conversation with a hotel reception over something quite simple.

I still see no answers from anyone.

There is now a group on facebook called "Pain in lower back during adrenalin rush situations"

34 yo female. Obese, 2 c-sections, kidney stones in the past, gallbladder removed for gallstones, I've throw my back out twice in the past, no other health issues, high caffeine intake, high stress job. These episodes are frequent for me, happening immediately following intense stress or fear, and common after orgasms. Although the episodes are brief (lasting no more than 3 min) the pain is intense....and specifically centralized, severe throbs of pain in kidneys, then pain "rides" up my spine. I am not positive where it ends though, because by the time it gets to shoulder level, another intense "throb" of pain starts in my kidneys, (so intense enough to distract me from anything else) and the process repeats until it just vanishes. Although knowing I am not alone helps considerably, I would love to be able to put a name on this!

I've been having this  for about 5 years now. I'm 36 years old out of shape and about 30 lbs over weight. I suffer from severe plaque psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. I also have many cysts and my kidneys but most too small to be measured on an ultrasound.

Heres how it starts for me...It's a heated argument at work, or the possibility of an fist fight out..I can feel my Adrenalin rush and I KNOW that I'm already in trouble. It starts hitting me in my lower pack...wham...wham...wham with every heartbeat...It slowly creeps up my spine not as painful, but then it reaches the back of my skull and WHAM WHAM WHAM...now I feel it in both places. It hurts sooooo badly that I rock forward with every "heartbeat".

! min later it's over but I'm left shaky, tired and quite scared. One time I got jumped by someone and I couldn't even fight back because I was in so much pain. The pain was worse than the beating I took. I turtled the whole fight, it was so humiliating but I had no choice...I can barely remain standing when this happens, let alone fight. I have a feeling this is going to cause my death.

The name for it has be said above STS sudden traffic stress. Now I've had back pain and black out headaches, cut the top near off a finger and had it glue back on, put a chainsaw in my knee and I've been kicked down stairs. But the pain I, we all get, and it is cause under an adrenalin situation, is like no pain I have ever felt. Wolverine blades to the back. The first time I literally cried from the pain, and that was in an overtaking move on a highway were the other driver swerved at me. That pain was fast and quick to end but the headache that followed was not

I've raced about in cars in clubs and I like the rush and abseiled and I still work hard out doors on properties and I'm pretty fit.

What I think is the problem is there is the Big Rush and nothing, your just sitting not running away or getting to the bottom of the cliff. The rush is going the edge, it a high going down. But there is no down time in a car.

Today I had to drive up to Sydney and it happened with some id**t (cause it's never our fault). But as I'm on the highway I raced it out of my system, I sweated, my peddle leg was pumping up and down but I felt good, high from the adrenalin. Problem is you can not drive like that on the roads, it's stupid.

I have a good heart, healthy weight and walk all day long behind a mower. It's not Crohin's or Addison's disease. It is a stress problem and I stress out. I going to get bloods tests. Some bacteria can cause and adrenal attach and herps types can lay hidden for years and never show but can cause lower back and abdominal pains. I'm Adam and I'll let you know what happens.

This happened to me twice. The first time it happened was when I shot my first deer with my bow. I thought I was going to fall out of my tree stand! I was 25 years old. The second time was this morning. At a stop light, right turn lane waiting for traffic to pass so I could pull out. Jerk behind me lays on the horn, so I took a lot of extra time making the turn. He came up beside me and gave me the single finger salute. I instantly felt that same pain. It was so bad I thought I was going to pass out. I'm 40 years old. I haven't felt right all day.
