The following story and question will deal with shoulder/elbow pain. Several years ago I had three brainstem/cerebellum strokes. Upon the MRI and other test, I was told two things, I had interior damage to my left vertebral artery. It had torn the interior walls, flapping over causing a lack of blood flow to my brainstem. They also found I had bone spurs in my neck and "severe" disc degeneration disease in my neck and upper spine that caused me to have to take pain pills for the discomfort during rehab from the strokes. Then in the middle of all of that, I developed diabetes type 2 with no insulin production at all. I started gaining weight and went from 160 lbs to 259 lbs in two years...Well I had a lot on my plate.. Learning to walk and balance were difficult but as time has gone by things have gotten much better. It has been several years, and although I still have problems from the effects of the strokes (some balance, drueling at night and the inability to "shut down my brain to sleep at night are still there).. Now I have a pain that started in my left shoulder and was causing pain when I moved my arm in a "pitching" motion or trying to scratch my back (my back constantly itches since the strokes and the effect it had on my skin's lubricating system. I first noticed this when wadding up a sock to hit a spider on the 18ft vaulted ceiling. With sock in hand, I pitched the sock...about 2 feet, grasping my shoulder as if it had pulled itself out of the socket!...A couple months went by, I saw my doc and she told me I must have a torn rotator cuff. I already had a torn rotator on the right shoulder some years ago when working out in gyms daily...and then injuring the rotator when I picked up some free weights the wrong way. So now the left one hurts, but not like the right one did. Not even close. The pain has now worked it's way to my elbow and thumb. Numbness and pain at the same time. I don't think it's a rotator...I think it is a nerve or muscle problem. Anyone have an idea?
Left shoulder soreness, numbness radiating down to left arm sometimes right arm going down to my hands one hand at a time, what is wrong with me ? Please reply. Thanks
I'm 14 and one and a half years ago I injured my shoulder when I was holding a punching pad and someone did a hook causing my arm to snap back. Ever since that the symptoms have varied. I used to have pain through my shoulder and along my collarbone and have spasms through my neck causing me to kind of seize up. Now, however, I have pain in my shoulder, constant numbness of my arm (all the way to my fingers) and can't even right as my hand is so numb and starts to pain. I've tried physiotherapy but it doesn't seem to be helping so I've had to stop. They've done x rays and MRIs, but lately they did one with dye, which we're still awaiting the results for, but none of the previous have shown anything certain.
i have the same problem, only time it goes is when im walking or standing up, but in bed it gets so painful from shoulder, through all of right arm down to thumb and fingers, the pain does get unbearable sometimes, as if its a trapped nerve in shoulder, still dont know what else it can be.
I have the same symptoms. It has been going on for over a month. Been to 2 different doctors and they can't tell me anything. The pain and numbness is very annoying
As for the shoulder: it could be ( bursitis ) I’ve had this for many years! The only thing that relived my intolerable pain, with out being operated; was a cortisone shot. Done by an orthopedic Dr. As for the elbow and fingers. There is a nerve that runs down from the neck. It’s called ( Ulnar nerve ) With the symptoms reported by most.. Cubital Tunnel Symdrom. There are many reasons for this... some may even experience pain when waking then tingling in index finger ( like when you hit your funny bone ) and pinky.
If caught early enough you can go see a pysio-therapist. With out surgery hopefully.
I was lifting weights, now my neck slightly hurts, and my right arm vibrates and feels at times numb and like pins and needles. Did I injure my muscle?
