Yeah yesterday the pain felt like my throat was clogged it didn't really hurt much but when i woke up my throat was already hurting. I thought this was a sympton of a cold since my 6 year old little brother was sick and he sneezed in my face, so i thought it was just a cold, but today the pain intestified. It got so bad that i just try to avoid swallowing, but it hurts less( i think) when i swallow food rather than when i swallow my saliva. Also if i have been swallowing my saliva for a while the pain is less than when i just started to swallow my saliva after not swalloing for a while. I don't have allergies nor do i have any of the symptoms of a cold except for this sore throat that hurts when i swallow at the left, right and bac kof my adams apple. I actually feel a light painful sensation below the joint that connects my lower jaw with my upper jaw when im not doing anything not eve nswallowing. Yhis is the first for me and i've had it for only 2 days so im wondering how to get rid of it or how long it will last, or if it will intesify tomorrow since i have school tomorrow and wil probably get very little sleep.

All of you relax a little - look up cricopharyngeal spasm. Apparently it is aggravated by stress and anxiety, by reflux and can be associated with musculoskeletal causes or so the ENT told me today. I think I caused mine by playing around with my throat a couple of years ago and something went crack. Since then from time to time I have had a neck soreness, pain on swallowing that was much worse if my head was turned to the left and tilted a certain way.

He has given me nexium to trial for reflux but muscle relaxants like valium I bet would chill it out. Thanks for the advice on food types and better start drinking more water and less caffeine!

Have a great day

I have had this in the past and once again have it, only more extreme. I have found that it will happen sometimes and i can "push" it back in. I hear few pops in my ear and turn my head and it usually works. I am pretty moderate in pushing the sides and am by no means a doctor, so at your own risk, but something to try. It will hurt pretty bad but if it's out of whack and not a throat inflamation it will go away immediately. This time i know mine is inflammation. By the way don't drink energy/malt beverages and puke.

To fixmeplease: Everyone has an adam's apple. Women's just aren't as prominent as men's. Don't give advice when you're misinformed. It's bad for everyone involved. Thanks,

This could be a serious issue and should not delay in seeking a medical opinion. Some of the symptoms that are being described are similar to a thyroid nodule. Scans, blood work, and a potential fine needle biopsy are required to diagnose. These websites maybe of some use, and . Explore your history for any signs of hyperthyroidism. But remember, this only another opinion to be investigated and patients are entitled to multiple diagnoses. Good luck..

I too am currently suffering from a sided adam's apple and dysphagia, feels like something is in my throat when swallowing. I display no other symptoms and have noticed this for 7 days.

Hmmm, first one in the Google search. I got accidentally popped in the adams apple a few weeks back, ever since then I've had this pain when swallowing on the right side of it. I've checked and don't feel any lumps or brakes just the pain that comes and goes. Totally sucks. I'm going in to my doctor in early Oct for a fasting lab, I'll try to talk to him then about checking things out if it's still persisting. Some days it seems just fine. I like to sing so if I hit some really high notes it seems to aggravate it so it's good sign that's some sort of stress in the area but not sure what to do about it . What, no singing, no stress (uh, hard to do in today's world LOL) ..... I don't drink coffee much at all and other foods and liquids doesn't seem to make it worse or feel better..

I've had the same issue for about a week or so. I think mine is more of a bruising or perhaps a tear as it started right when i accidentally swallowed a sharp sliver of sunflower seed shell and it poked at a similar spot.

NAPROXEN!!! I hope this will help some of you. I had severe pain when swallowing my saliva in the left side of my throat/neck. It didn't hurt as much when drinking or eating, but just swallowing, especially at night was extremely painful. I had just finished my antibiotics for my 2nd round of strep throat within a month and thought perhaps round 3 was coming on. But no swollen glands and no fever - plus I had just finished my full course of antibiotics the day before. The pain was ongoing for over 8 days and I was just going to schedule another appt. with the doc when I read some previous posts that stated that advil was helpful to some. Since advil is an anti-inflammatory I decided my pain was worthy of a stronger medication. I had some leftover Naproxen (prescription anti-inflammatory) from an accident I was in and took just 1 pill before I went to sleep. Sometime in the middle of the night I noticed that I was able to swallow without that stabbing pain in my neck/throat. Woke up the next morning completely pain-free! The whole time I thought it was a sore throat, but it must have been a muscle or nerve causing the pain. Hopefully this will help somebody out there with the same symptoms. If not, then go see your doc.

My daughter has been complaining about this for over a year and a half. After the third endocrinologist...I think we are finally getting somewhere. After being on and off synthroid for slightly elevated levels of her thyroid, she still felt miserable and a goiter. I pushed for the goiter to be looked at. They did an ultrasound and discovered her parathyroid enlarged. I am still waithing to get more info as the endocrinologist didn't know what the radiologist meant by her parathyroid. I looked it up and my daughter fits the description of parathyroidism to a T. Look up parathyroid. It is on the backside of the thyroid and cannot be felt by self/doctor. The parathyroid functions differently than the thyroid. I looked it up on the ***edited by moderator*** web addresses not allowedand also the nimh.gov site. The site that got my attention due to the detailed description was ***edited by moderator*** web addresses not allowed I don't know if this is anything that you all have...but worth checking into. Best of luck.

I have had a similar pain in my throat it does feel like its coming from same place you described, but mine is only when I gulp huge gulps and not sure if its bigger than what my throat can fit or if there is some other reason for the pain. I am pretty sure when I was younger I used to be able to gulp way bigger gulps and temperature doesn't make a difference on my pain it's a very sharp knife pain like being stabbed with a knife but on the inside of your throat. It may be related to acid reflux since I have complained to doctors before, I advice you go to an Ears, Nose & Throat Specialist. You will be surprised how far they exceed the normal doctors in knowledge and even diagnosing things. Normal doctors don't have the equipment or even the know how to properly diagnose anything in those areas: A bit of proof to back that statement up my whole childhood I suffered from chronic sinus infections and I always felt there should be some fix for it so I would go to the doctor whenever my congestion got so bad I could barely breath. My doctor would write an rx and send me home eventually since my doctor was too stupid to properly diagnose the problem and I had no fever or sign of serious illness he started saying to my parents "Well I think your boy just has a case of the I don't want to go to school illness and he is only faking like he is sick" And thanks to him the rest of my childhood I was sick every day & my parents would not take me to the doctor since they did not believe anything was wrong. I even thought the normal healthy color of snot was green. After I grew up and was an adult tired of being sick everyday I went to a specialist on my own where my normal doctor 10 years ago should have sent me instead of guessing that I was a stupid kid who didn't want to go to school. And they did a small surgery on my nose fixing the deviated septum that thing in the middle of your nose that keeps your air passageways even so you get the proper amount of oxygen from each nostril and can breathe normally. And ever since I recovered from that surgery my sinuses have not only been clear but the color is clear healthy no color mucus what it should have been all along if the m***n MD had no wasted years of my life making me think it was normal to be sick. So back to my point the best doctor for anything throat, sinuses, ears & nose related is an Ears, nose throat specialist. Not all of them are the best in the world, but they all out rank the regular MD in knowledge that is why they are a specialist they didn't just learn basic skills they learned advanced in the area they are in. Mds want you to think they are the smartest best doctors in the world and they don't have the extended schooling to back them up at least most don't maybe some 1% of regular MD or two has studied the proper amount of advanced skills to recognize problems that require specialists. I highly recommend a specialist in that area you need advice or medical help with. From my own experience with it I think it may be a result of mistreating my health when I was young and stupid before I got my sinuses fixed I smoked heavily and ate a lot of sour candies as well as spicy foods, after I got it fixed I stopped smoking (being able to breathe the proper amount of oxygen can make you want to breathe fresh air and not want to smoke at all) and I still ate spicy foods I live on spicy foods as its part of my culture all my family recipes are Italian. Anyway I developed acid reflux and I resorted to natural medicine so I can continue to eat what I want and have recommended natural cures for acid reflux to everyone I know, but warning it is a different cure for each individual you have to be willing to be your own personal Guinea pig for a while to get it right: here is what worked for me "Heartburn free" (or basically anything with its only ingredient orange peel extract) [also you can just eat loads of orange peel] scientific facts to back up the theory of why this works orange peel contains a very strong substance that does not allow acid to pass through it works as a neutralizer keeping the acid part on the inside well when you put a neutralizer in the middle of stomach acid it absorbs the acid around it and then passes through your system the same as any other food. Also there is things that work awesome for me in addition to this papaya enzyme (if you go with supplement instead of buying the fruit and eating one a day & you'll need to when its not in season make sure it does not say under ingredients papaya flavoring instead of the extract or enzyme from the actual fruit [It's wrong they should not be able to list that as a supplement how would flavoring help anyone with a problem they seek natural remedies for, but they do list it as such]) and pineapple enzyme and as well you can just eat pineapples, but be careful when eating the natural fruits make sure you look into where the supplement is source like the orange has more of the inside actual orange that makes your condition worse if you have acid reflux and so you would need more peel than orange to counteract it. Its dirty so always wash it think of all the hands that touched it scrub it good before eating or grow it yourself so you know what its been exposed to there is miniature trees you can even grow in your house that produce oranges. Anyway make sure to always look into natural remedies thoroughly before starting them and discuss them with your specialist your doctor is a m***n as is everyones and they do not believe natural stuff works, so either discuss with a specialist or a nature path doctor and they will help you understand why natural stuff works and what to avoid. I still eat spicy foods I just increased my intake of natural acid neutralizers and rarely feel effects of heartburn. But for some reason I still experience that sharp pain and have to remember not to take big gulps of anything I'm drinking makes me wonder if its something caused by smoking and not having anything to do with acid reflex but the doctor has told me it was from acid reflex before. So I still would advice you start there with a specialists sorry for being a bit repetitive.
