I have been awakening in the middle of the night with pretty severe cramping in my stomach if I am sleeping on my stomach. The pain is what wakes me up, I will roll to my side or back and it will take a while but the pain will go away. The pain area is horizontal across my stomach, above my belly button, right below my ribs (but not under my ribs).

I have the same problem, but instead of cramping, mine is a strong painful aching. I can no longer sleep on my stomach and even bending over a few minutes causes this aching pain to come quickly. Many days it would last all day long.

Have had ultrasound, EKG, & bloodwork done with no issues found. Had an upper scope done which showed little redness in bottom of stomach but not enough to be causing all this.

I have found that the drug Sucralfate twice a day has been very helpful as long as I don't sleep on my stomach or bend over too much.

Yet, I still have no idea what the cause is & would love to know. Has been about 2 years now!

I have the same thing. When I sleep on my stomach I get cramps.. normally so bad that I think it is my period.. but it's not.
If I roll over it will go away after a minute or so.. but I don't sleep well on my back so I have this problem often.
Sorry I don't have any answers but you are not alone.

I have the same problem and have had for a couple years. I believe it is Ulcerative Colitis. Ulcers in the Large intestine. I find that drinking water can help eleviate some of the pain. I have trouble staying hydrated because the absorption of water is also done in the large intestine so maybe that would explain the need to go pee rather than being able to use the fluid in my body. One way I can tell if I'm dehydrated is my mouth gets a little pasty.

I am not sure if this is the same pain you are experiencing, but I too had pain just below my ribs for several months. I got x-rays and blood tests, all negative. I finally figured out that sleeping on my stomach was definitely the cause. I normally sleep on my back, but I guess I was rolling over in the night. The pain was insidious so I didn't notice it developing until it was quite painful. Most of the time I didn't feel the pain, but when I laid on my stomach it would come on hard. I fixed this by making a point to sleep on my back as often as I could. After a few weeks of back or side only sleeping the pain went away. I verified this about a year later when I unconsciously started stomach sleeping again and the pain came back. If this is the case for you, just stop sleeping on your stomach, you are straining your floating ribs. PS - a softer bed makes sleeping on your back more enjoyable :)
