"The skin affected by lichen sclerosus is often severely itchy and painful, especially in the genital area. The affected skin can tear or bruise easily.
"In severe cases, ulcerated lesions, bleeding and blistering can develop. This leads to progressive scarring of the skin. Scarring of a man's foreskin can result in difficulty urinating (dysuria) and urinary retention. Complications in men can also include difficulty achieving an erection. In women, ulcerated lesions can lead to scarring of the vaginal opening, which can lead to painful intercourse and problems with sexual desire. Blistering in the genital area can also cause intense pain."

Boy am I glad I found this discussion. Silly Cottonelle wipes!! Tried the eucalyptus oil which was like sitting on 1000 needles for about 45 minutes!! I was about to have the nerves down there deadened. Stopped with the moist wipes and I have my life back!! Whew!

I was taking antibiotics for what my Dr. thought was "travelers diarrhea." I had had diarrhea for about 48 hours, then went on the antibiotics. The diarrhea dissipated, but then the tingling started. Now when I have a bowel movement, I experience excruciating stinging, then severe itching and a tickling throughout my genital region. It kinds of dissipates, but there is still discomfort.

I've just been dealing with the itching, tingling, pain during bowel movements for a few days now. I too, was traveling, coming back from Hungary. While in Hungary, I got what felt like the flu for several days. I flew back to the US, and the very next day had very acidic diarrhea for two days. I saw a doctor on the second day, and he gave me an antibiotic. The diarrhea went away, but then the tingling, itching, and now pain has grown. Please let me know if you find out what's going on!

I am allergic to wool and found that the lanolin (derived from sheep's wool) in many of these products causes me great irritation and pain. If you are also sensitive to wool, be careful, lanolin is in many, many products. I was having the same sort of issues and was using baby wipes containing lanolin to clean myself. My skin reacted to the lanolin and became red, swollen, broken and bleeding, and even itchier than I started.

While doing a search on the topic, I also came across this article from Men's Health which says that wiping too much can remove the natural oils which keep your crack from becoming dry and itchy. ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** web addresses not allowed***. Ironically, the MH article actually recommends Cottonelle to help relieve the problem.
I have also been applying Aveeno Skin Relief 24 Hour Moisturizing lotion twice a day.
