I'll try to make this as short as possible...about a month ago I was at work and felt fine, then all the sudden I had a very sharp pain in my lower back. I went to the restroom and there was blood in my urine and it hurt. I thought I saw a stone, but I was really too freaked out to check it out. I went to the doctor (a walk in clinic) and was told I had a bladder infection and they gave me antibiotics (bactrim generic) to clear it up. I'm also on birth control but the doctor said it shouldn't affect it. I finished the antibiotics but still had sex once or twice before I finished the whole bottle. I've never missed a birth control pill, but in the past week or so I've had mild period like cramps and I've been very thirsty and tired. I've had a few mild headaches and lower back pain. My face is also breaking out terribly which never happens until around my period, and even then it isn't this bad. My period isn't due for another 9 days. I just don't feel normal and thought maybe I had another infection of some sort, but my face breaking out all the sudden on top of all this has me worried I may be pregnant. I don't have insurance at the moment so I don't want to go back to the doctor yet....does anyone have any thoughts? Thanks in advance!
Antibiotics can lower the efficiency of birth control pills because sometimes, for some women, they can affect the amount of hormones in the blood stream. They don’t always make the birth control ineffective, and with most antibiotics it depends partly on the BC and partly on the woman. Birth control pills that contain estrogen are more likely to be affected by antibiotics. But, in your case, I don’t think that there are that much chances that you are pregnant – it would be way too early for any signs of pregnancy, especially acne.
