Hi Micki,

Been meaning to come back for two weeks now. I hope that everything is back to normal now for you as you are almost at 6 months since the op. The time has just flown. Are you running again? Or are you convalescing from having the other foot operated on? It is now 9 weeks for me and today I had the bandage off for the last time. I have now finished physio and I just have to exercise my toes myself everyday at home. It has been such a good experience for me. No pain and I am now in trainers oasics for external walking and I can get into some of my lighter shoes for indoors. The foot is still generally swollen compared to the other one and I think that will take another 2 months to go completely. But my toes are good, flexible and only the second toe slightly painful when massaged if I over do it. That one had a lot of healing to do as it had the pin and two areas operated on. The pin was removed at 5 weeks and apart from the very last inch was not painful to extract. I see my surgeon in May which will be 5 months after the op where he just checks it again with an xray and will then make an appointment for my other foot. That will be in October I think. Looking forward to hearing you update. Best wishes, Brenda.

The bunion must be done or the hammer toe(s) will come back - my doctor recommended this. I was in your situation, with the hammer toes rubbing BADLY even in high toe-box ortho shoes. The bunion caused no pain and we were going to leave it, but it had to be done. Now the joint is not doing well - x-ray shows nonunion - and after 6 weeks of minimal walking I am in a horrible stiff boot in the hopes that the joint stabilizes. If no improvement after another 4 weeks, I may need additional surgery. If you are told to minimize walking FOLLOW orders. I think I brought this on myself with more movement than was wise.
