So glad to see these posts. I am a nurse and have had patients get their periods for months at a time after injections. I just never had a post menopausal patient complain of this.
I had two shoulder injections, and then wrist surgery all within a week. Today I started bleeding. I will go to Doctor on Monday, but this has put my mind at ease for the weekend. Thanks

I am 64 and have not have a period in over a decade the doctors do not hear me when I tell them that the cortisone injection was the only variable. they gave me some type of abortion pill and I have been bleeding almost two weeks along with cramps. they give me an incredulous look when I tell them I think it is an association. thank you for all of your input it's putting me at ease and I hope the best for you

My results were very similar I also grew a thick endometrium wall from one shot and a fibroid also showed up on my test. My doctor is calling me in and I am sure shes going to want additional tests. I wish I had never gotten that cortisone shot in my shoulder. How long did it take from the time you received your shot for the endometrium wall to shrink?

I am 56 years old and have not had a period in well over a year .I had a cortisone injection a week ago .3 days ago I started a period that started with a mild spotting and now like a normal period .I also have been constipated since the shot .I went to the Doctor because of not being able to get moving. He took a bunch of test all normal .Then the bleeding started .Now I have both so its good to see others having the same .Maybe its just a side effect .

I know this is an old post, but wanted you to know that dexamethasone is one of the most long acting steroids. It is in your system a long time and I totally think it and the other steroid are the cause of your menstral symptoms.

I am a healthy 64yo, 13 years postmenopausal. A week after cortisone injection to the knee I began light spotting that has progressed to a regular type period. This is not a coincidence! The study (referenced on this site) http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23816843 published by the National Institute of Health states that 2.5% of postmenopausal women experience bleeding (and endometrial thickening). This is significant information. I will not be rushing to my ob/gyn for immediate testing but will most definitely be speaking to my orthopedic doctor, who assured me that there would be no side effects. My gratitude to all who posted their experiences.

After 10 years menopausal I had a steroid shot in my shoulder and about 2 weeks later started cramping and am now in the midst of a normal type menstrual cycle. I went in to see my doctor and he said it is most likely a side effect of the shot. He’s still having me get a pelvic ultrasound but I’m almost positive it’s from the steroid shots. Weird going into the pharmacy and buying feminine hygiene products again at age 60!

Hello - same thing happened to me today. A week ago I had both of my knees injected with cortisone and now I am experiencing spotting and menstrual cramps. Im 60 years old and haven't had a period in over 16 years. I'm betting it is the shots that messed up my hormones. I'll still see my doctor but I'm not too concerned that it's cancer. Take care.

I too had a cortisone shot in my shoulder for calcification on my rotator cuff. Hadn't had a period for 18 months.....and then I began spotting and getting crampy like I was going to get a period. I went to my gynecologist who said she had seen this before in other patients and although she did a biopsy she felt that it was due to the steroid shot! I am relieved but upset my orthopedic didn't mention this side effect...

I got a period 30 years after the menopause as a result of cortisone shot. Is this common, or should I be worried as I am almost 82 years old? Have never had problems and obgyn gave clear result 2 years ago.

Why do I have post menstrual bleeding after cortisone injections in the knee? After 15 years of menopause I'm having a menstrual period after knee injections! What actually causes this?

I am a 61 year old woman who has had previous injections for my back and knees and never had an issue. However, a month ago I had hip injections and 2 weeks prior knee injections and was also prescribed 5 days of strong prednisone for severe neck issue. I started bleeding a week after the hip injections. I have been having bleeding and spotting issues for 3 weeks now. Alarms went off, so I had a vaginal ultrasound and am proceeding with a hysteroscopy and biopsy. Today, something made me look up if cortisone injections could cause bleeding. Thank you to all the women who posted to this thread, so I don't feel crazy. I am confident that my tests will come out okay. Convinced that this is the answer, but uncertain of whether I should ever get injections again.
